Words of Wellness Wisdom
I am sure you’ve heard the sage advice, "Live in the present moment." For the only time that is guaranteed is now. I want to take this Thanksgiving and holiday season to remind everyone to live in the present moment, as we take in the last gorgeous hues of fall and breathe in the crisp air. By keeping our eyes open to all the beauty of nature around us, even in urban settings, we live a more conscious and ultimately happier life. By feeling more at peace and being happier in the moment, we make a positive and immediate impact on society as a whole.
I believe that is the energy we all need more of as winter approaches and anxieties around the flu are rising. I personally am thankful that this holiday season we have moved beyond the pandemic. That said, it remains as important as ever (or even more so) to focus on our physical health. November is National Diabetes Awareness Month, and we need to do better when it comes to preventing and reversing prediabetes and (type II) diabetes.
In this newsletter, I'd like to point you toward our latest blog on “knowing your numbers” when it comes to your diabetes, and it also includes recommendations for losing weight and lowering blood sugar. Perhaps this national diabetes awareness initiative is intentionally timed with the start of the season marked by overeating and weight gain for many! Take a read, and also be sure to register for our upcoming December SENS Wellness webinar on holiday treats and joyful eats that you can truly enjoy without weight gain or worsening blood sugar.
What’s more in this wellness letter, we have all the links to the recordings of our recent wellness webinar events, including a wonderful meditation event focused on how our habits during the day, including practicing moments of gratitude, can translate into improved and healthier sleep. Or maybe you are curious about how aromatherapy can help manage emotional and mental stress? And of course, I am constantly working to motivate our members to get and stay physically active. For that, watch the September exercise event or listen to my recent SENSe of Wellness podcast episodes to inspire and empower you! Finally, you will also find a couple of my own favorite seasonal recipes below.
Wishing everyone a beautiful season of peace, joy and happy moments!
In good health,
Susan Greeley, MS, RDN
