Fall 2021
Important IWIF Publications and PDFs Updated

The IWIF Employer Handbook has been updated and is once again available in PDF form. Also back in stock is the IWIF Guide for the Injured Worker brochure.

The Handbook contains the IWIF Accident Investigation Forms, which have also been updated and are again available for use. Please note that IWIF is now using “Account Numbers” instead of “Policy Numbers” to track all State of Maryland claims, as reflected on these updated forms.

Please see your IWIF Claims Adjuster or SERMA Risk Management Consultant if you’d like a hard copy of the Handbook or the Guide. Limited quantities are available. We encourage you to download the electronic copies below.

Introducing Safety Center, Powered by Zywave

State of Maryland agencies now have access to a new service for safety information online: Chesapeake Employers’ Safety Center, powered by Zywave. The learning resources available in Safety Center are a value-added benefit for our State Agency partners.

Benefits include direct access to our popular safety posters, tip sheets and training topics as well as many new safety materials created by Zywave, our third-party partner. Additionally, users can develop safety manuals and will have access to a unique Learning Management System (LMS) and an OSHA 300 Log tool.

Read more about Chesapeake Employers’ Safety Center here. To request access to the Safety Center, contact your SERMA Risk Management Consultant or email [email protected].
Adjuster's Tip of the Quarter: About "Certificates of Insurance"

Is your agency being asked for a Certificate of Insurance? Maryland State agencies technically don’t hold workers’ compensation policies with IWIF and, therefore, we cannot produce “Certificates of Insurance” for you. However, we can provide you with an assurance of confirmation of workers’ compensation “coverage” by IWIF on behalf of the State of Maryland.

To request this service, please contact your SERMA Risk Management Consultant or call our Customer Service Department at 1-800-264-4943.
Kids' Chance of MD Scholarship Fund Celebrates 25th Anniversary; Now Accepting Scholarship Applications

Since its founding 25 year ago, the mission of the not-for-profit organization Kids’ Chance of Maryland has remained focused on raising money to provide educational scholarships for children whose parent has been catastrophically or fatally injured.

Sisters Tailah and Taylah Armstrong are two of the most recent Kids’ Chance scholarship recipients. Kids’ Chance has been honored to help these two students fulfill their educational dreams. Their mother was a dedicated MTA bus driver who tragically lost her life in a motor vehicle accident while on the job.

The Kids’ Chance scholarships are funded by donations from businesses and individuals. In the past 25 years, Kids’ Chance has helped more than 120 students by providing scholarship assistance. IWIF/Chesapeake Employers Insurance is proud to be a founding corporate sponsor of Kids’ Chance of Maryland.

If you know of a Maryland State employee who may have been catastrophically injured or killed in a workplace accident and has a college-aged child, there is scholarship assistance available. Visit www.kidschance-md.org for more information and an application.
