Aloha!
The Hawaiʻi School Facilities Authority (SFA) team feels a tremendous responsibility to students, parents, and others in the community to deliver on the charter established by the Hawai‘i State Legislature: more preschool classrooms, modernizing schools, and developing workforce housing to support Department of Education teachers and staff.
Although SFA has a relatively small staff of 8 people, we are making progress toward those goals. We have renovated existing classrooms on campuses for more preschools and are in the process of planning and designing new prekindergarten hubs; we are engaging the community as we plan a brand new school in Waikapū in central Maui; the environmental assesment for the first-ever teacher workforce housing project at Mililani High School is now underway. These are complex projects and we would not have been able to achieve these milestones without great partnerships.
In our day-to-day busyness, the SFA team is taking time to reflect the valuable support we receive from so many in the community. We feel a great sense of accomplishment and are filled with gratitude. Government officials, including Gov. Josh Green, Lt. Governor Sylvia Luke, our legislators, the Department of Education, the Executive Office of Early Learning, the State of Hawai‘i Charter School Commission, the SFA board of directors, and so many others have all been instrumental to are achievements to date.
While it often feels we are constantly swimming upstream in our struggle to do things more efficiently at an accelerated pace in a collaborative manner, we know that ultimately, this is about Hawai‘i’s children. And that keeps us plowing ahead!
Mahalo to all of you,
Riki Fujitani
Executive Director
