Happy November!

Autumn is upon us and is showing it's amazing colors. Each tree has it's own unique color palette for us to stop and enjoy.

Each of us has our own beauty and colorful palette to share with others. We should stand tall and be very proud of who we are every day.

We are the outcome of our choices. We choose what we eat. We chose to exercise. We chose to pray. We chose to be social and we chose to be alone. We also chose to have our spine checked for vertebral subluxations.

Periodically, the office becomes busy to the point of standing room only. Some of you have commented "What are you giving away today?" My response "lifesaving chiropractic adjustments!" Here's the fact...I'm not kidding! Your spinal adjustment releases your innate potential. Your spinal adjustment allows for your body to function at its best. Your spinal adjustment is truly life saving!

We are a product of our choices. As the end of year approaches and our schedule becomes a bit more hectic, please keep true to that which brings you life. Eat well, sleep well, have a good mental outlook and, absolutely make time for your spinal adjustments. If the office is crazy busy, I ask that you are patient and stay or swing back in 30 minutes. You are worth it. Oh, and bring the kids. They deserve to function at their best, too.

See you on your next visit.

Chiropractic Philosophy

Chiropractic may very well be one of the least understood philosophies of life and health. It is based upon a few very simple ideas.

The body is designed with an inborn ability to maintain itself in a state of proper function. A newborn baby may seem small, fragile and helpless, but within that body is the ability to make food into living tissue, to heal cuts and bruises, to adapt to changes in the environment, to produce the chemicals necessary to perform every bodily function, to fight off invading organisms, to live as much as 100 or more years, in short, to lead a healthy, productive life.

The brain and nerve system are the primary tools by which we attain proper function, what we commonly call health. Every organ, gland and cell in the body depends upon messages carried to and from the brain in order to function in a coordinated manner so that each part can benefit the whole of the body producing a full and abundant life.

Interference in the nerve system reduces the body's ability to function in a coordinated manner. While a corpse has a brain and nerve system, it does not have life, there is no power or energy flowing over the nerve system. Similarly, a paralyzed person has lost function due to injury to the nerve system. Even slight damage to the delicate and vital nerve system can reduce the body's ability to function at its fullest potential.

A spinal misalignment that interferes with the nerve system (called a vertebral subluxation) creates a reduction in coordinated function. Slight misalignments of the bones of the spine caused by everyday, common activities can interfere with the ability of the nerve system to carry messages that are necessary for the successful accomplishment of those everyday activities, not the least of which is the attainment of maximum health.

Chiropractors correct vertebral subluxations. The single objective of the chiropractor is to locate and correct vertebral subluxation in adults and children so that families and entire communities are able to express life at a higher level.

If you and your family are not seeing a chiropractor regularly, you are not doing all you could for your life and health.

Q & A with Reggie

What is a vertebral subluxation?

To understand a vertebral subluxation, you first have to understand a little about the body's anatomy and about the nerve system. Virtually every nerve in the body starts as part of the brain and then millions of nerve fibers leave the base of the skull and run down inside the bones of the spine. And there thousands of them branch out at each level to go to the various parts of the body so that the brain can stay in communication with all of the organs, all of the cells, all of the body parts and make them work as a team.

Every time you bend or twist or turn the body has to adjust or move or rearrange the position of these vertebrae. A vertebral subluxation is a circumstance where the body does not perfectly move these vertebrae. The body doesn't have the energy or the force to properly move them so that some of them actually irritate the very nerves they're meant to protect. So a vertebral subluxation is a circumstance in which the body does not have perfect control over the movement of its own vertebrae resulting in nerve irritation and a dis-communication or a disharmony between the brain and all parts of the body.

For you to function perfectly as a human being, every single cell in the body, must be in constant communication with the brain, and the brain must be in a position to regulate and run and control all of the cells.

A vertebral subluxation interferes with this causing an imperfection so that the various systems of the body function with less than perfection. Obviously a vertebral subluxation interferes with your health potential, but also it interferes with every other potential of the body. It interferes with your coordination, your speed, your stamina, your energy, your income earning capacity, how well you play sports, how well you drive a car, your sex life, your moods, your relationships with your kids. If you have a vertebral subluxation, and as long as that vertebral subluxation stays there, the body cannot properly run its various functions to perfection.

Words of Wisdom:

UCLA Legend John Wooden

Be enthusiastic about your work.

Enthusiasm is one of the cornerstones of Wooden’s “Pyramid of Success.” “Without enthusiasm, you cannot work up to your fullest ability and potential; you’re just going through the motions. And just going through the motions won’t bring you to the level of competitive greatness we seek, whether in basketball, business or life.”

Don’t get angry when people test you.

“People are going to test you. But don’t back down from them on the things in which you believe, because once they take advantage of you and get away with it, they’ll keep it up.”

Coach Wooden was tested one day when All-American center Bill Walton defiantly showed up to Picture Day on the eve of the season’s first practice with a full beard, which Wooden forbade his players to have. Walton told Wooden that he didn’t have the right to tell him how to wear his hair. Wooden agreed that he didn’t have the right to tell him how to wear his hair, but he did, however, have the right to decide who would play on the team. “We’ll miss you,” he told Walton, who shaved his beard before practice the next day.

To get cooperation, you must give cooperation.

“The sharing of ideas, information, creativity, responsibilities and tasks is a priority of good leadership. The only thing that is not shared is blame. A strong leader accepts blame and gives the credit (when deserved) to others.”

Don’t be afraid to fail.

“If you are afraid to fail, you will never do the things you are capable of doing. If you have thoroughly prepared and are ready to give it all you’ve got, there is no shame if you fail-nothing to fear in failure. But fear of failure is what often prevents one from taking action.”

Be confident but not arrogant.

“Arrogance, or elitism, is the feeling of superiority that fosters the assumption that past success will be repeated without the same hard effort that brought it about in the first place. Thus, I have never gone into a game assuming victory. All opponents have been respected, none feared. I taught those under my supervision to do the same. This reflects confidence, not arrogance. Arrogance will bring you down by your own hands.”

Pay attention to the little things.

As a coach, Wooden was known for teaching his players how to put on their socks and shoes on the first day of practice. His words of wisdom: Every detail matters.

Be loyal to yourself and to your organization.

“A leader who has loyalty is the leader whose team I wish to be a part of. And so do others. Most people, the overwhelming majority of us, wish to be in an organization whose leadership cares about them, provides fairness and respect, dignity and consideration…. [Be loyal] and you will subsequently lead an organization that will not waffle in the wind when things get tough.”

Remember that success is not defined by victories.

Wooden’s definition of success: “peace of mind, which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to become the best of which you are capable.” Wise words of wisdom indeed.
