Happy September!

Well, that was a quick summer season although, technically, we have a few more weeks before it's officially Fall. Take the time to enjoy "local summer" with less crowds and less traffic. Do the things that you didn't get to do in the last few months. Enjoy a sunrise, a walk on the beach, a treat on the boardwalk, a bike ride or even a chiropractic spinal check-up. Whatever you thought you wanted to do this summer but didn't - now is the time! Don't wait for the perfect time because life is not perfect. Schedule the time by adding a reminder in your calendar or even including a friend or family member to hold you accountable.

Getting things done sometimes even creates some mess. Be prepared for life to be messy. I've often said sometimes you have to shake up the snow globe and see where the dust settles. Struggle is needed for growth. A plan is needed for accomplishing your goals. Your spine, your body, your life depends on you working through the struggles and persevering. It takes effort to make good choices, to meal prep, to get good sleep, to maintain a regular schedule of receiving chiropractic adjustments. You can do it. You're worth the effort. Your cells, your organs and your life depend upon it.

We are in the process of painting the office (thank you Jeff Riccardi) and having new carpet installed (thank you Innovative Flooring). It's been a little chaotic but it has been so worth it. Life got a little messy buy it was needed to move forward. If it's been a while since you've been here, now's a great time to reconnect.

We're also having a birthday celebration on Wednesday, September 18. We will be celebrating the anniversary of the first chiropractic adjustment in Davenport, Iowa with refreshments. Please join us.

We also have some personal commitments this month and have some minor changes to the September calendar. Please take a moment to note the changes.

Thank you for taking the time to read our newsletter. We appreciate you and thank you for being a part of our chiropractic family.

See you on your next visit.

Join us for a Chiropractic birthday party

It was September 18, 1895 when Daniel David Palmer, a magnetic healer in Davenport, Iowa delivered the first modern chiropractic adjustment to Harvey Lillard, a janitor cleaning the Ryan Building on Brady Street.

Harvey had an interesting story. It seems he was working in a stooped, cramped position some 17 years prior when he felt a "pop" in his neck and lost his hearing. Palmer (known as "DD") writes, "an examination showed a vertebra racked from its normal position. I reasoned that if the vertebra was replaced, the man's hearing should be restored. With this object in view, a half hour's talk persuaded Mr. Lillard to allow me to replace it. I racked it into position by using the spinous process as a lever and soon the man could hear as before."

That was chiropractic's humble beginnings. Today chiropractic has grown to become the only profession on the planet whose objective is to correct vertebral subluxations - interferences to the proper functioning of your nerve system that result in a decrease in every aspect of your life. Stated simply, every human being, under every circumstance will express more of their potential and perform better in every aspect of their life when their nerve system (the body's master controller) is free of any interference.

To commemorate Dr. Palmer's vision, we are having a birthday party. Come join us for birthday cake and balloons on Wednesday, September 18th.

It's not how you feel, it's how you function

form and function

Racing cars have spoilers to cut down on wind "drag".

Structure affects function.

Swimmers may shave their bodies and wear skin-tight suits to lessen their resistance in the water.

Structure affects function.

Bowling balls are round for a reason. How many pins could you hit if the bottom of the ball was shaved flat?

Structure affects function.

Your body is functioning exactly as it is currently designed. To change the function of your body, YOU MUST CHANGE THE DESIGN, the structure!

When you and your family have your spines checked weekly for subluxations, you influence your structure (body) in a positive way. If your structure is better, your function will be better, every time.

For your safety...

We will NOT mix chiropractic with:

  • Physical therapy
  • Nutritional advice
  • Ultrasound
  • Hot/cold packs
  • Diathermy
  • Heel lifts
  • Psychological counseling
  • Pain relief (drugs)

We WILL:

  • Check your spine for vertebral subluxations and assist your body in removing them thereby allowing your body to function as best it can for as long as it can regardless of the presence of absence of pain.

Has everyone in your family had their spines checked this week?

Did you know...

All 30 professional baseball teams have chiropractors serving on their health care teams?

Baseball players face fitness and injury challenges in their 162-game regular season, with twice as many games as NBA players and more than nine times the number of games as NFL players.

The Pro Baseball Chiropractic Society has worked diligently in this area.

Note from Dr. Daria & Dr. Joe: regular chiropractic care optimizes every aspect of human performance regardless of the presence or absence of disease or symptoms.

Why are there different types of chiropractors?

Q. Why are there different types of chiropractors?

A. Next time you're out for a drive, take a look around and you'll notice at least a few different chiropractic offices. While they may all seem the same from the outside, on the inside there is one of three different types of chiropractors practicing.

The first type of chiropractor claims to cure and treat every condition and disease through chiropractic care.

The second type of chiropractor has more of a modest approach. This chiropractor only treats certain medical conditions and symptoms through chiropractic care. For example: back pain, neck pain, headaches, migraines, etc. This would be your most common chiropractor.

The third type of chiropractor has a clear objective that has nothing to do with any medical condition or symptom. This chiropractor views chiropractic as a necessity for every infant, child and adult regardless of health conditions. They practice solely with the non-therapeutic objective of locating, analyzing and assisting in the correction of vertebral subluxation because they are detrimental to the expression of the innate intelligence of the body.

Chiropractic is no different then exercise, nutrition or rest. It's vital for your optimal expression of who you are. The next time you hear someone say they don't need to see a chiropractor because they feel fine, ask them if they would wait to utilize proper exercise, nutrition and rest until they have been diagnosed with a condition. Of course not! It's in anyone's best interest to take care of their body so they can function at their best. By getting your spine checked on a regular basis, you're choosing to utilize the third type of chiropractor and choosing to live at your potential.
