Retirement Confidence Declines as Financial Pressures Grow

Americans are feeling less confident about their financial future, according to the 2026 Retirement Confidence Survey from the Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI) and Greenwald Research. Just 61% of workers say they are confident they will have enough money to live comfortably in retirement—down from 67% in 2025 and the lowest level since 2017.

The survey points to several factors contributing to this decline, including inflation and rising costs, debt, health care expenses, and concerns about Social Security and Medicare. The findings underscore the importance of starting retirement planning early, building savings, managing debt, and developing a financial strategy for long-term security.
