Responding to Disaster - Mobile TIPS for First Responders
Fire fighters are among the first responders to rush in when disaster occurs. To aid first responders with the evacuation and rescue of individuals with disabilities, the Mobile TIPS for First Responders was developed as part of Project REDD (Research and Education on Disability and Disaster) at the Center on Disability and Development at Texas A&M University. The Mobile TIPS webpage lists specific disabilities (e.g. Autism, Deaf or Hard of Hearing) for reference during emergency situations. The TIPS also link to resources and services in the state, contains an Acronym Guide which provides both disability and emergency management acronyms, displays a link to the RE sources for D isasters and D isabilit y (REDDy) Directory, and offers a link to the directory of community resources available statewide in Texas. TIPS can be downloaded for use in the field when cell service is not available. Mobile TIPS for First Responders can be found here . View the REDDy Directory , Project REDD . SFFMA Membership/Certification System Support
SFFMA’s membership database and certification system has been active for several months now; however, IF you or your department is experiencing difficulty logging into the system, locating data, or any other item related to the database system, please contact us to let us know what your concern is and we will gladly help you.   Contact us via email.
The SFFMA Executive Board and staff would like to thank each and every one of our members who have supported us throughout this challenging year as we brought our new assocation software online and got it up to speed. There have been several issues to address as we've gone along, and we appreciate your patience as those corrections are being made.

Holiday hours - The state office will be closed November 22-25 for the Thanksgiving holiday.
The FY 2018 FP&S grant application period will open at 8.a.m. ET Monday, November 12, 2018 and will close on Friday, December 21, 2018 at 5 PM ET. Please make sure to thoroughly review the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) prior to beginning your application as it contains the latest updates to the FY 2018 FP&S Grant Program. Begin preparing your application now by using these application assistance tools . Read more online!
Certification News
Thank you to everyone who has logged in to the new database program! There have been some questions about the terms used for the certification area, so let me go through them for you. Each person has a Certifications area on his or her record. During the data transfer from the previous databases, all of the objectives entered by the department were combined into the current format. The programmers also used the certification records that predated the use of objectives (June 2011), as well as application submission documentation from the Certification Department. Terms and definitions available here .

Courage to be Safe
Coordinators need to enroll all individuals in the Courage to be Safe item. Once the training is complete, update the completion date in the system with the date on their certificate. All applicants must have their Courage to be Safe training completed in order receive certification. In contrast to the older system, we did not list this item in each certification, but added it as a top-level line item on each individual record.

Traffic Incident Management
Beginning January 1, 2019 all applicants for Firefighter I Training Completion must also have completed the Traffic Incident Management coursework. This carries through to all certifications that also require issuance of full Firefighter I as a prerequisite (Instructor, Fire Officer, and Incident Safety Officer).
