SFH Livermore Review Set for Monday March 13, 2017- Please Attend!
Sunflower Hill Livermore, a proposed residential community for 44 individuals with developmental delays/special needs, is officially up for review at the  March 13  Livermore City Council meeting. It will be held at  7 p.m.  at 3575 Pacific Avenue. Please plan to attend if you can!

Designed similar to senior living, the proposed community will offer studio and one-bedroom units as well as a co-op living model with master bedrooms/baths and shared kitchen and living space.  Designed by Dahlin Architects, the new buildings follow the architectural theme of the current home on site, which was designed by Robert Schenone, the grandson of Robert Livermore. MidPen Housing is serving as SFH's affordable housing partner for the project.

Earlier this month, the Pleasanton City Council unanimously approved SFH at Irby Ranch, a proposed residential community for 30 individuals with special needs. SAHA Housing is working with Sunflower Hill as the affordable housing partner for this site.

If SFH Livermore is approved on  March 13, the project timeline envisions groundbreaking in early
SFH at Irby Ranch
2018. SFH at Irby Ranch would follow  one year later.

Sunflower Hill has just started a housing interest list for individuals and families interested in learning more about each property and the application process.  To sign up for the housing interest list, please click here.

Sunflower Hill Gardens
Sunflower Hill Gardens at Hagemann Ranch had a very productive garden in 2016, which was summarized in our annual report, and 2017 is off to a great start!

We've had lots of rain the past few months, yet between the rains we have continued to work and run programs in the SFH Gardens. However, the weeds have been growing and we will soon begin prepping the fields and planting the plants, and we can use some volunteers to help with this. We have a great team and several special needs groups helping to maintain the garden, but would still love more volunteers to help us in the garden. If you are interested in helping us, we are there every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday mornings from 9:00 a.m to 12:00 p.m, so please join us! For more information about the Volunteer days and times see our  website.

We had our first 2017 Family Workday on February 10, in which the focus was starting our seedlings for the Spring. Our next family workday is scheduled for Earth Day,  April 22, when we will begin our Spring planting. See our  website for more information and email us at  gardens@sunflowerhill.org if you are interested in joining us!

Charles' Story

Our latest story in our series comes to us from Michele Plunge about her brother, Charles. You have probably seen Charles many times, walking around Pleasanton, shopping at Safeway, and always smiling. You can read Charles' story here.

Thank you for sharing this with us, Michele!
SFH Gardens Internship Program

We are excited to announce our newest intern - Cory Mantach! Cory has been working hard in the garden for over three months and just started his official internship in February. He is a hard worker and really enjoys helping to lead work teams during the special needs program. He is a great addition to our SFH Gardens team!  Welcome Cory!!

We have additional garden internship opportunities.  The overall objective of the program is to provide vocational training opportunities for higher  functioning special needs individuals. It is designed to help  develop horticulture job knowledge and skills, provide leadership opportunities, and general life skills. The interns are required to commit to working 2-3 half days in the garden, for a minimum of 7 hours per week. Interested applicants can begin by volunteering at the SFH Gardens and/or email  gardens@sunflowerhill.org for more information.

Thank you Pleasanton Weekly Holiday Fund!

Thank you again to the  Pleasanton Weekly  for including us in their 2016 Holiday Fund! The  Rotary Club of Pleasanton  hosted all of the nonprofits at their weekly meeting at Hap's on February 23, where the funds were distributed to the ten beneficiaries. These funds that were given to Sunflower Hill will go towards our two intentional communities as well as our garden. You can read the full article here. Thank you, Pleasanton Weekly and all who donated to the holiday fund!
