Deeply rooted in the theology, tradition, sacred text and philanthropic practice of all religions is the call to care for the poor. The San Francisco Interfaith Council owes its very existence to the call of former San Francisco Mayor Art Agnos to religious leaders, over three decades ago, to open the doors of their houses of worship and to provide home cooked meals and shelter to the homeless during the most inclement months of the year. Just as people of faith have a moral obligation to care for the poor, so to do governments. This week's "Online Briefing for Faith Leaders," hosted by the San Francisco Interfaith Council and supported by the COVID Command Center's Joint Information Center Virtual Outreach Team, welcomes, as our Featured Presenter, San Francisco Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing (HSH) Interim Director Abigail Stewart-Kahn. Interim Director Kahn will shine a light on San Francisco's Homelessness Response System, the impacts and response of the System of Care during COVID-19 and the Department's recovery efforts through the implementation of the Mayor's Homelessness Recovery Plan, that supports investments in housing and shelter to help the City create more resources for homeless residents as San Francisco endures and eventually emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Breed, to her current position as interim Director of HSH, where she leads a staff of over 100 along with over 50 provider partners. Abigail’s focus on system improvements, community awareness, education and direct services is rooted in her early career as a social worker.
