Former Dominican Republic President Leonel Fernández Honored at SFLHCC’s Viva Miami Hispanic Heritage Celebration | |
The South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (SFLHCC) proudly hosted its 22nd Annual Viva Miami Hispanic Heritage Business Expo & Lunch Conference at The Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, bringing together business leaders, entrepreneurs, corporate partners, and community members in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.
The highlight of this year’s celebration was the participation of The Honorable Leonel Fernández, former President of the Dominican Republic, who served as the distinguished guest speaker and was presented with SFLHCC’s Presidential Legacy Award. The program also featured opening remarks by Florida Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins.

The celebration also honored the 2026 Miguel de Cervantes Awards, recognizing Dr. Oriana Damas, Elsa Diaz, Violet Gonzalez, Ivan Herrera, Angelo Cerracchio, and Dr. Carlos Mallol for outstanding leadership, service, professional accomplishments, and community contributions.
Through Viva Miami, SFLHCC continued its tradition of celebrating Hispanic heritage, business excellence, leadership, and community impact, while recognizing individuals whose accomplishments continue to make a difference in South Florida and beyond.

SFLHCC President & CEO Liliam M. Lopez, Dr. (h.c.), joined Peruvian American Chamber President Marco Ruiz and members of its board for the signing. The partnership comes ahead of SFLHCC’s upcoming Trade Mission to Peru in late October, which will provide Chamber members with opportunities to connect with Peruvian business leaders representing a variety of industries.
The MOU reflects both organizations’ commitment to promoting international trade, business development, and new opportunities for their members while building stronger economic ties between the two communities.

FLHCC President & CEO Liliam M. Lopez, Dr. (h.c.), recently attended the 39th Annual Golden Age Awards from the Latino Center on Aging, held at the Pullman Miami Airport Hotel. The annual celebration recognizes individuals for their leadership, service, advocacy, and contributions to the Hispanic and Latino community.
The occasion was especially meaningful for President Lopez, who was herself a recipient of the Golden Age Award in 2018, recognizing her commitment to supporting seniors and organizations that advocate on their behalf.
SFLHCC proudly congratulates Chamber members Danay Rodriguez-Arriortiola of Larkin Hospital and Griselle Marino of the Hispanic Affairs Advisory Board on receiving a 2026 Golden Age Award. Their recognition reflects their dedication to service and positive impact in our community.
SFLHCC also congratulates all of this year’s honorees and applauds the Latino Center on Aging for its continued work supporting and advocating for older adults.

There is a great tradition among members of the legal field in Miami, who gather to support the mission of The Women's Fund while taking the opportunity to connect with peers and network over drinks. Hence the name, Raise the Bar. Since its inception, funds raised from Raise the Bar have supported Advocacy and Funding & Grantee Partners initiatives that work with survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking.
