TUESDAY, AUGUST 1, 2023

MEET YOUR NEIGHBORS, FIGHT CRIME, AND HAVE FUN!

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes community partnerships and neighborhood comradery with the goal of creating safer and stronger neighborhoods. Every first Tuesday night in August we invite neighborhoods to host block parties that feature music, cookouts, contests, youth events, and visits from emergency personnel.

National Night Out is the first Tuesday in August. View your station's NNO festivities below.

Flexible Retail and Commercial Spaces

The Mayor London Breed along with Supervisors Myrna Melgar, Joel Engardio and Matt Dorsey, has introduced an ordinance, File #230701, for flexible retail and commercial spaces.

The Citywide Expansion of Allowable Commercial, Restaurant, and Retail Uses is to facilitate easier permitting for small businesses, encourage economic recovery and growth, and fill commercial vacancies in San Francisco. The goals of each of the recommended changes include:

  • Reducing the number of barriers small businesses experience when trying to open a new storefront or expand into a new space in San Francisco;
  • Providing small business entrepreneurs greater flexibility to adapt to the changing times caused not only by the COVID-19 pandemic but also due to shifts in consumer behavior as seen globally;
  • Allowing more businesses to open without going through the months-long Conditional Use Authorization process by principally permitting more uses throughout the City and reducing the ability for appeals to cause even longer delays;
  • Allowing more business use types to open on the ground floor to provide more options in filling vacant commercial ground floor spaces;
  • Addressing challenges for venues that provide entertainment and/or alcohol, as well as for businesses that off outdoor activity areas for patrons.

Also, here are some media coverage regarding the proposals.
