Pursuant to the authority in Section 2202(a) of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act and based on the exceptional circumstances of this public health emergency, the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) is allowing Community Organizations and School Food Authorities (SFAs) to operate the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and SFAs to operate the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) Seamless Summer Option (SSO) through December 31, 2020. Program operators may begin SFSP/SSO, effective immediately. Please note,this waiver does not require SFAs to transition to SFSP or SSO operations.
How to Apply to Operate SFSP/SSO (September - December 2020)
Operators who choose to operate SFSP/SSO for the month of September will be required to submit a Management Plan and a SFSP application in CNPWeb for Program Year (PY) 2020. Furthermore, operators who chose to operate SFSP/SSO for the months of October-December will be required to submit a new Management Plan and a SFSP application in CNPWeb for PY 2021.Details about the application process and deadlines will be discussed in the webinar on Thursday, September 3rd.
SFSP Waiver Extensions
USDA has extended the following waivers for the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and Seamless Summer Option (SSO), effective through December 31, 2020. ADE has opted into to the waivers below to allow program operators in Arizona to provide free meals to children safely during COVID-19.
In order to participate under the parent pickup waiver or to operate an open non-area eligible SFSP/SSO site, Program operators must contact ADE for approval. Approvals under the initial SFSP/SSO waivers will continue under this extension; no further action is needed.
