Reminder for Registered Instructors and Evaluators

All Registered Instructors and Registered Evaluators are required to review the updated 2025 State Fire Training Procedures Manual and complete the Title 19 Update Web Form in your SFT User Portal by June 1, 2026.


Individuals who do not complete the web form by the deadline will not be eligible to teach or evaluate until the update is submitted. Please contact the SFT Help Desk with any questions.

Stay Connected: Upcoming Statewide Training and Education Advisory Committee Meeting

State Fire Training encourages all stakeholders to stay engaged with the Statewide Training and Education Advisory Committee (STEAC) process. The April STEAC meeting agenda is available for review, and we look forward to your attendance at the next meeting on July 10 at 0900 in Zoom. Thank you for your ongoing support and participation in advancing California’s fire service training and education initiatives.

2nd Annual Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) Safety Symposium

Building on last year’s success, the Office of the State Fire Marshal will host this year’s symposium in conjunction with the National Association of State Fire Marshals Conference on August 20, 2026, in Orange County. Join fire service leaders, code officials, and industry experts as they share insights and best practices in the rapidly evolving BESS landscape. Follow the link to learn more.

Curriculum and Certification Updates

Retirement Reminder - Chief Fire Officer

Effective June 30, 2026, SFT will retire Chief Fire Officer (2014). On July 1, 2026, SFT will remove the curriculum from the SFT course catalog, and it will no longer be available.


Instructor candidates actively pursuing Chief Fire Officer (2014) instructor registration must submit all documentation postmarked on or before June 30, 2026. Anyone who applies to teach Fire Officer 3 (2020) on or after January 1, 2026, will be required to meet the Fire Officer 3 (2020) Instructor requirements, which includes CFO/Fire Officer 3 Certification.  


Candidates pursuing Executive Chief Fire Officer certification using the 2014 task book must complete and submit their Executive Chief Fire Officer Certification Task Book (2014) postmarked on or before June 30, 2027. Candidates who do not meet this deadline will be required to meet the Fire Officer 3 (2020) certification requirements using the Fire Officer 3 (2020) Certification Task Book.

Accredited Academy Updates

ARTP/ALA Accreditation Updates

Glendale Fire Department, San Jose Fire Department, Vallejo Fire Department, and Solano College have been approved for reaccreditation. Victor Valley College has been approved for accreditation. Congratulations to our Accredited Academies!
