Fly on the Wall...
Heard in the Hall...

On Tuesday afternoon, I was asked to speak to a student who had been to the nurse's office throughout the day for a variety of undiagnosable ailments.  It was closing in on 2pm, so I knew I simply had to explain that the day was just about over and that he could certainly make it through the remainder of the day.... Except I couldn't help throwing in a bonus....

Me:  Hey, I know you have not been feeling that great today.  You have been to the nurse a few times for ice packs, have had a bellyache off and on, and I think a small cough as well.
  (student nods with wide eyes)
Me: And I know that you aren't feeling yourself, and so if you think that you can make it through the rest of the day, I am going to let you take tomorrow off.  OK?  You can stay home all day tomorrow and rest.
(student nods a bit more
enthusiastically and suppresses a small smile that is trying to emerge from the corners of his mouth)
Me: Do you think you can make it until dismissal then?
Student:      YES!

After end of day announcements, the student searches me out to say,
"Mrs. Russo, YOU GOT ME!"

Happy Friday!   Our unusual stop and go week was a nice change of pace, and I suspect that we all may have enjoyed the "hump day, stay at home day"!
The week was made even more fun for Grades 2, 3, & 4, as they ventured away from the building today on academic excursions!  Our second and third graders enjoyed time at the New Bedford Whaling Museum, and Grade 4 visited the Boston Children's Science Museum!  Thank you to our numerous parent volunteers who went along as chaperones today!
The holidays are approaching quickly and therefore calendars must be clearly marked!  Early dismissals, changes in regular Mass schedules, Breakfast with St. Nick, and the Nativity Performance should all be on your family's radar.  As a school, not only do we celebrate the joys of the season through music and fun events, we also provide opportunities to give to those less fortunate. Our Thanksgiving SVDP Can Drive concludes next week, and will be quickly followed by our next opportunity to demonstrate our generosity and self-less giving.

Have a wonderful weekend and God bless!

Together Everyone Achieves More!

It was outstanding to see so many of our middle school families at the
Bishop Stang Open House!  Eighth grade parents, please make sure that your calendar is marked for the
Place ment Exam, set to take place on both Saturday, December 5th and 12th from 8am-11:30am.  You might  also consider allowing your child to BE A SPARTAN FOR A DAY by contacting the Admissions Office.
O u r teachers are currently working on mapping grade level curriculum in the area of Mathematics.  These maps will assist us in our efforts to achieve grade level mastery for our students.  As teachers
outline  the concepts that should be mastered
at their particular grade level, we will have a better understanding of the skills that may need to be revisited.  Teachers will also outline how each concept is taught,  as well as the supplementary materials utilized during instruction.

Just a reminder:

There is a Day of Reflection for students receiving their First Reconciliation and First Communion at St. Francis Xavier Parish, this Saturday Nov 14th from 12:30-3:30pm at the parish center.  Each child should attend with one parent/guardian.
