Our Holy Father's visit this coming week, is a very exciting for our country.  Every three years, the Holy See's Pontifical Council for the Family  sponsors  the world's largest Catholic gathering of families.   This year's theme is:  Love is Our Mission: The Family  Fully Alive.  We certainly gave witness and testimony to our families being fully alive, as we welcomed the grandparents of our students in Grades Kindergarten through Grade 2 this past Monday.  The crowd was wonderful, and our students were thrilled to have their Papas and Nanas, their Grammas and Grampies and their Vóvó and
Vôvô 's here to see our school and experience all of the fun that takes place here.  From photos to BINGO,  to a small dance opportunity, it was wonderful morning!  Photo proofs capturing the beauty of this gathering were sent home this past week with your child. Please return the envelope to the school by next Friday, whether you are interested in purchasing the photographs or not. ( Please make note that the proofs should not be removed from the envelope).  Candid photos from the event will be posted in the next couple of days to a photo album on our website for you to enjoy as well. Thank you!

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.
John 14:27

Emergencies.   We all hope and pray they never happen, but know that it is necessary to prepare for possible occurrences.  Planning for speculated emergencies is difficult, for when faced with a situation, instinctive and immediate judgment calls are made that simply cannot be rehearsed.
Our school family had its first Fire Drill of the school year last week, initiated by Chief Gallagher. The faculty and students filed quickly and quietly along their designated routes and performed the drill to the satisfaction of the department.
This week, your child may have mentioned to you that we also practiced a Lock Down Drill.  Classes had been well versed on the drill, its purpose and the procedure, prior to the whole school drill.  Our teachers and students performed very well, as they put the motions in place to lock down and stay safe until the 'all-clear' message was given to release.
It is certainly not easy to practice these drills, nor is it easy to allow your mind to create scenarios in which these drills would become reality.  What is easy is knowing the truth; that the safety and security of your children is extremely important to us.  These drills must be conducted and we will continue to practice emergency procedures.   Our School Crisis Team has met to debrief, and will be working very closely with our teachers to assure that our staff and students are as prepared as one can be, when faced with an emergency situation.
Also on the subject of protecting our children, a reminder that this week I will conduct two CORI training sessions.  This training is necessary if any parent plans on being involved in any way this school year with field trips, helping in the classroom, or covering lunch/recess duties. Please plan on attending one of the sessions, if you have the need to complete the Diocesan CORI process.  In an attempt to fit the needs of our families and their schedules the sessions will take place on Tuesday morning, September 22nd at 9am, and Wednesday, Sept. 23rd at 7pm.  The duration of the training is approximately an hour and a half.       If these times do not work for your schedule and you desire to be involved at the school, please email me at [email protected]
and I will attempt to accommodate your individual needs.

Fly on the Wall,
Heard
from the Hall...
A certain amount of confusion and crossing of wires can be caused by the fact that we have a Mrs. Araujo, a Mrs. Russo and now a new, Miss Caruso working here at the school.
This week, while walking down the hallway, a VERY cute and confident four year old said to me:
"Good morning
Mrs. O'Russo!"
I guess Mrs. O'Malley may have made her way into the confusing mix.
