Traffic Shift on SH-55 at Middleton and Midway

SH-55 Update, June 2025

The Idaho Transportation Department will shift traffic on Karcher Road (State Highway 55) Thursday night at the Midway Road intersection as part of ongoing efforts to widen the highway to four lanes. Traffic will move to the newly paved temporary shoulder to allow crews to work on the existing lanes of the highway in the coming months.

The traffic shift will give crews more space to work. You can look forward to increased capacity and efficiencies once work is complete at this intersection.

What to Expect during the traffic shift (6/12):

  • Nighttime work from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • SH-55 reduced to one lane with flaggers
  • Removal of the acceleration and deceleration lanes

What's Next:

Karcher Road at Midway will keep two lanes of traffic during the daytime with a center turn lane available at the intersection.

When complete, the highway will feature four lanes and dedicated turn lanes at intersections.

SH-55 and Middleton Road will have a similar configuration in the future
