Dear SHA Family,

It’s been a week with highs and lows. It was with deep sadness that we received the news of Rabbi Moskowitz’s passing. He meant so much to so many of us in the community. It is truly the end of an era. We offer open-hearted comfort to Mrs. Moskowitz who taught here at SHA for so many years – May H’ grant you many years of well-being and continued vibrancy.

The highs? Oh, my goodness it was with so much delight that when I opened Facebook pictures of our SHA Alums and current NYHS students, Class of 2022, volunteering in a Jewish orphanage in Romania which had been relocated there from Ukraine. We are so abundantly proud of our alums, Class of 2019 and so impressed with the leadership of NYHS – Jason Feld, Head of School, for taking the students. Above and beyond! They should merit to continue to have lives of performing mitzvot even as they graduate and move on to their next great step! Yasher Koach!

We have been counting for weeks, yet it feels like SHAvuot got here awfully fast. That said, let us embrace it with fervor! The festival’s simplicity offers us an opportunity to zero in on its essence; appreciation for H’s bounty as expressed in the bringing of the First Fruits and the Two Loaves of bread, and the joy of Torah study as the day also marks the Giving of the Torah.

There are many opportunities for learning over these next few days at community shuls and please by all means print and use the Shabbat Table at your table!
