Message from SHARE: Industry Influence and SHARE Requirements

After being a SHARE member for 14 years, I decided it was time to start volunteering and giving back to our fine community. So last year, when Cheryl Watson called for someone to replace her as the requirements officer for the  MVS Core Technologies Project   (MVSE), I grabbed the opportunity with both hands!

What does SMF Stand For? Performance!

To quote management guru Peter Drucker, “You can't manage what you don't measure.” While this saying may have originated from the desire to manage revenue or business efficiency, it also applies to your shop’s transaction processing systems. For z/OS, the role of system measurement is filled by SMF, which actually stands for System Management Facilities. (Google it!)  

A Call to Action: Preserve SHARE's Past for the Future

SHARE Past President Anne Caluori is working to collect and catalog important documents from SHARE’s more-than-60 years of history. Many of SHARE's long-standing member organizations participated in key working groups, producing white papers, cooperating in technical task forces, and developing presentations that, in retrospect, have influenced the complex computing industry from the 1960's to today.
