| | Federal Challenges and Housing Legislation | | The homelessness and housing fields are feeling the effects of major federal actions. The U.S. Department of Justice issued new guidance threatening DEI efforts, the SOAR Technical Assistance Center will shut down this month, and a rare bipartisan housing bill is advancing in the U.S. Senate. The Renewing Opportunity in the American Dream (ROAD) to Housing Act was recently approved by the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee with full bipartisan support. This is the Senate committee that works most on legislation specifically related to housing and homelessness. This is the first significant federal housing legislation being seriously considered by Congress in almost a decade. Read more about these updates shared by the National Alliance to End Homelessness. | | |
Report on State Projects Funded by
the National Housing Trust Fund in 2020
| | NLIHC has issued a new report, The National Housing Trust Fund: A Summary of 2020 State Projects. Part of NLIHC’s effort to document the impact of the national Housing Trust Fund (HTF), the report summarizes how each state and the District of Columbia awarded $323 million allocated in 2020 by the HTF. Survey of Development
Professionals from NJ OFBI
| | The NJ Office of Faith Based Initiatives (NJ OFBI) is interested in organizing development professionals (developers, architects, interior designers) to facilitate communication regarding faith-based opportunities as they arise. The projects range in size and scope covering the entire State of New Jersey. If you’d like to be included please complete the survey linked here. NJ OFBI plans to share the information with interested parties that want to move forward with their sustainable development projects. | | Survey on Artificial Intelligence in Affordable Housing | | The New Jersey Chapter of the Women's Affordable Housing Network (WAHN) is interested to learn what topics on artificial intelligence are affecting the affordable housing sector as they launch a new learning series. Help shape the discussion and the series by answering a short survey on the topics that are most important to you. | | New Report Clarifies the Nation’s Housing Shortage | | The Urban Institute recently released a report that aims to clarify the extent of the national housing shortage by analyzing the supply deficits at the local level. Researchers summarize the most prominent estimates of the nation’s housing shortage, which, due to varying methodologies, range from no shortage to 7.1 million homes. While the Urban Institute estimates a shortage of nearly two million homes, the report argues that having a better understanding of the discrete aspects of local housing markets is more critical than settling on a nationwide estimate. | | |
