HUD Updates
House America and Support for Climate Change Action
|
|
House America
Earlier this year, HUD launched “ House America,” a national initiative to address the nation’s homelessness crisis. The initiative encourages state, local, and tribal leaders to pledge to reduce homelessness in exchange for federal resources and support to increase the supply of deeply affordable housing and to permanently house people
experiencing homelessness.
This federal initiative of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH) invites mayors, city and county leaders, tribal nation leaders, and governors into a national partnership. House America will utilize the historic investments provided through the American Rescue Plan to address the crisis of homelessness through a Housing First approach.
Through the American Rescue Plan, communities now have historic housing resources - 70,000 emergency housing vouchers, $5 billion in HOME grants, and significant investments to preserve and protect housing on tribal lands - to help more Americans obtain the safety of a stable home. The American Rescue Plan also provides $350 billion in State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds through the Department of the Treasury to support the many needs communities face, including homelessness and housing instability, as they respond to the pandemic and its negative economic impacts. Communities also have resources through the CARES Act, the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021, and other state, tribal, and local resources to re-house people experiencing homelessness and create additional dedicated housing units to address homelessness.
House America provides communities with the focus, resolve, and technical know-how needed to deploy these resources to maximize impact.

CSH Shares Race Equity Framework and
Journey Toward Transformative Organizational Change
|
|
CSH recently released their CSH Race Equity Framework as part of their continuing journey toward becoming an anti-racist organization. CSH's work is to advance supportive housing; they highlight how we cannot build thriving communities centered on housing aligned with services without a comprehensive focus on equity.
As shared by CSH: "It is a fact that across the nation, individuals and families most impacted by homelessness, crisis systems engagement, and institutionalization are disproportionately Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC). To do our work effectively and equitably, we must address the root causes of housing and systems inequities. Next, we must facilitate ongoing collaboration between those most impacted by racism and those with the ability and authority to dismantle structural barriers to drive change."
The Framework is the culmination of their findings through a systematic and comprehensive effort to explore, analyze, discuss and plan. This Framework explains how CSH plans to operationalize racial equity from within and provides practical approaches to organizations and practitioners seeking to center race equity to end homelessness and advance housing solutions grounded in equity.
To offer feedback and share your racial equity work with CSH, contact Pascale Leone, Vice President, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) at CSH.

Equity and Gender-Based Violence:
Linking Prevention and Response
|
|
Next week, join our recent Conference Keynote speaker, Henry Love, MA, MPhil, Senior Analyst from Abt Associates for a free online event on Equity and Gender-Based Violence: Linking Prevention and Response. The discussions in this event are offered to a global audience and will take place over two days. Make sure to watch at 10:00am EST on December 1st as Mr. Love will discuss these issues in the context of the Black LGBTQI+ Community as well as its connection to homelessness nationally, but specifically in NYC. It will moderated by Chief Equity Officer at Abt Associates, Roslyn Brock, the former chairwoman of the NAACP.
About this event
During the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, Abt Associates is launching our Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) Framework as a part of our company-wide commitment to equity. Preventing and responding to gender-based violence (GBV) is strongly linked to challenging racism and harmful gender norms, as well as to promoting disability rights and shifting the way we respond to disability. Abt’s policies are a part of global efforts to end violence against people of all genders.
To unpack the links between gender, racial, and disability inequality and violence, Abt will convene experts and practitioners from around the world to discuss how the international development community can move toward a rights-based, anti-racist, and feminist approach to GBV prevention and response, including by making practical change to promote non-violence and increase leadership and inclusion in the GBV field.
