Traffic Management Setups

The below safety information is a follow on from a recent on-site incident, where a KTL vehicle reversed into the site against the flow of traffic. The operative entered the traffic management before it was set up.

A brief overview of what should be considered when accessing/egressing Traffic Management (TM) setups

Plan

Before arriving, on-site operatives attending the site should check the TM plan to see:

What type of road it is, the site size, approach, visibility, and if there are any footpaths or cycle lanes.

Access

Only Chapter 8 marked vehicle are permitted to be parked within TM setups.

Enter the site through the designated entrance indicated on the TM plan, with the vehicle's flashing amber beacons turned on.

Park

If possible, park off road within the TM setup but do not obstruct the pavement, cycle routes, or access to premises.

Do not obstruct traffic signage or signals. The vehicle's Chapter 8 markings need to be facing oncoming traffic.

Amber beacons are to be turned off when the vehicle is parked safely.

Egress

Leave the site by the designated exit and re-join the main roadway when safe to do so.

Amber beacons need to be turned on whilst egressing site, and turned off when the vehicle is back on the road.
