SMOKY STUDENTS IN CCSD HONOR BAND:
Eight Smoky Hill Kids were accepted to the CCSD high school honor band. The band was selected from top musicians from all the CCSD schools. They rehearsed on Friday and Saturday with Dr. Don McKinney the director of bands from the University of Colorado at Boulder and they performed a concert on Saturday at 4:30.

DFW HONORS SMOKY:
Voice of Democracy:  Established in 1947, the Voice of Democracy audio-essay program provides high school students with the unique opportunity to express themselves in regards to a democratic and patriotic-themed recorded essay. Each year, nearly 40,000 9-12 grade students from across the country enter to win their share of $2.1 million in educational scholarships and incentives awarded through the program. This year's theme was, " Why My Vote Matters."

These students were recognized at the VFW Post #1 January meeting  on Thursday, January 10, 2019.

2nd Place:  Rohan Guddanti
 
In addition, Michael Corrado was honored as the post's  Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher Award winner .   The VFW Teacher of the Year award contest recognizes teachers for their outstanding commitment to teaching Americanism and patriotism to their students.  Mr. Corrado also won at the district level and in now in consideration at the state level.  We wish him the best of luck.

SMOKY HILL THEATRE NEWS:
Smoky Hill High School presents "The Sound of Music" February 14, 15, 16, 2019 at 7:15 pm. This wonderful musical will feature over 150 of our students! Tickets go on sale Feb. 11.
