Baycrest is presenting the 2018 Rotman Research Institute Conference on March 19-21 at the Sheraton Centre Hotel in Toronto. This conference provides the opportunity to bring together researchers with basic and translational scientific expertise to discuss their research programs' latest findings that ultimately aim to enhance clinical care for patients. Project Echo - April 11, 2018 - July 18, 4-5:30 pm.
Baycrest Health Sciences in partnership with North East Specialized Geriatric Centre, will hold Cycle 1 of "Project ECHO Care of the Elderly" (ECHO COE).  The goal of this  free tele-educational program  is to enhance the quality of care for older adults in Ontario, by improving the knowledge and skills of primary care providers. Brainxchange with Behavioural Supports Ontario (BSO) and the Substance Use / Geriatric Addictions Collaborative are asking organizations to help promote access to and the use of the Canadian developed Senior Alcohol Misuse Indicator (SAMI). Centre for Studies in Aging & Health

Registration is now open! On May 25th from 8:30am to 4:30pm at Providence Care Hospital join us for " Empowering Older Adults: Opportunities & Possibilities". Topics for this years conference include social isolation, poverty and age-friendly communities. Keynote speaker. Dr. Parmiinder Raina will speak to these themes as he shares his findings from the Canadian Longitudinal Study of Aging.  Early bird registration is available until March 29th. Register  here.

Ontario Neurotrauma Foundation (ONF)

ONF's latest edition of NeuroMatters is now available. Highlights include a report on the 2017 Fall Prevention Month campaign, updates on work underway to promote the linkages between fall prevention and age-friendly communities, researcher and partner profiles, news and more.  

Ontario Osteoporosis Strategy

Osteoporosis Canada, Ontario Osteoporosis Strategy and GERAS Centre for Aging Research are excited to announce the launch of four series of videos, aimed at educating health care professionals to prevent falls and fractures for long-term care (LTC) residents. Click here to watch the 4-part series for Personal Support Workers.  

Queen's University

On Wednesday April, 25th 2018 from 8am to 5pm, Queen's University's Continuing Professional Development is hosting Geriatrics 2018 at the Donald Gordon Conference Centre in Kingston. Topics include strategies for dementia and common care issues in the vulnerable. Program and registration information is available here.

Senior Friendly Care

Monthly Reading List

This month we turn our attention to important considerations related to delirium and older adults. We have developed a reading list that provides links to and summaries of a variety of open source resources related to delirium in older adults. Topics include risk factors related to hip fracture, the HELP program, delirium at the end-of-life, delirium in dementia, non-pharmacological interventions, nutrition and frailty.

AGE-WELL 2018 Catalyst Funding Program
to support innovative research projects aimed at generating, promoting or accelerating economic and social benefit in the field of technology and aging.  Catalyst grants will support early-stage, scalable research projects including pilot studies, feasibility studies and novel approaches that are aligned with AGE-WELL's mission and vision. Projects must demonstrate strong potential for real-world impact.

The Retired Teachers of Ontario Foundation
Call for proposalsThe Retired Teachers of Ontario Foundation is announcing a $50k grant opportunity for projects that focus on research into educational initiatives for health and social care professionals designed to improve the health and wellness of older adults. This competition is open to qualified grantees based in Ontario and British Columbia.

Canadian Frailty Network

The FRAILTY MATTERS Innovation Showcase  is a national CFN initiative to support their mandate of promoting and transferring the best knowledge, evidence, and innovations and practice and policy.

CFN is seeking applications from organizations that have implemented, or are implementing, an innovation for the improvement of care for those living with frailty or their family/friend caregivers and other care providers.

Call for abstracts. CAG2018 is your opportunity to share your research and other work in the field of aging with your national and international colleagues from a diverse spectrum of disciplines. Abstracts are welcomed from all disciplines and all interests in aging, including research, practice, policy and related areas. The theme of the 2018 annual meeting is  "Making It Matter: Mobilizing Aging Research, Practice & Policy". Individuals are encouraged to submit abstracts which address this theme, although all submissions for oral, poster, symposium and workshop presentations.

Ontario Trillium Foundation

Organizations still have time to register to apply for this years Grow Grants. Grow grants support the evidence-based development of activities by funding:
  • Replicating, adapting or scaling a proven model
  • Piloting or demonstrating a tested model

Funding amounts are between $50,000 to $250,000 per year for a term of 2 to 3 years. Applications must align with OTF Priorities.  Click here to learn more.
