Voltaire’s Vault

Monday, 1-3 PM

City Names and More

It’s the second Monday of the month and another edition of Voltaire’s Vault, a show devoted to popular music from the 1950’s and 60’s. Prince Voltaire, The Motor City Hipster, is the host of the program. The topic of the second hour of next week’s broadcast will be songs with the names of cities in their title. I hope you’ll join the prince on your listener supported island connection, The Voice of Vashon.

Stirring the Pot

Tuesday, 3-4 PM

Soup

It's the first show of the New Year! This frigid time of the year brings a strong desire to sip something hot and nourishing. Co-hosts Linda Nygaard and Selin Demir, along with their intrepid engineer, Heidi Skryzpek, have been stirring up things in pots this winter and will come to the studio with ideas that will inspire you to stir up some comfort of your own while the chill winds blow.

Featuring unique international recipes along with some twists on the old favorites, these kitchen mavens invite you to experiment, slurp by slurp, as they tell some tales, share some history, and dish up some lore about our favorite bowls full of streaming goodness. Curries fit in this category, too, and there will be talk of one or two favorites. Soup doesn't have to be an all day affair but it can be! Quick soup, long simmering soup, creamy soup, brothy soup, spicy soup, soothing soup...Have it your way, but be sure to tune in for some kitchen table talk among friends.

Morning Scramble

Wednesday, 9-Noon

The Three Amigos Scramble
The Three Amigos Scramble,
where wit gets weird and weird gets airtime on Voice of Vashon!

Sick of safe, snoozy radio? Buckle up. Rick Ames, Luke McQuillin and Dr. Steven Nourse and this rogue gallery of grifters are back in the saddle, galloping through parody, pointed rants, and musical mayhem. It’s satire with a side of sass, harmony with a hint of havoc, and just enough truth to make you squirm.

From tech addiction tangos to bureaucratic ballads, multitasking meltdowns to Seinfeld showdowns, we serve up the strange, the sharp, and the “Wait… did they actually say that?”

Regular chaos includes: Lots of personally selected, just for you music.

  • “Stump the Stupe”, our trivia rodeo of the ridiculous.
  • A sit-down interview with Aspen Anderson, a journalist and recently appointed, anointed, blessed, and has been given the secret handshake of the Beachcomber's staff. You ask Why? She is the new editor of the Beachcomber. She comes with a great deal of journalistic experience, having completed an internship with the L.A. Times. She is also a former writer for the Beachcomber and she lives on the Island.
  • An update on town happenings including the Vashon Center for the Arts, with Allie Maki Maya. We do have a important disclaimer. We will not discuss any activities happening in the field behind the IGA.

Yes, we do serious too!

The Payback Soundtrack

The Payback is the 37th studio album by American musician James Brown. The album was released in January 1974 by Polydor Records. It was originally scheduled to become the soundtrack for the blaxploitation film Hell Up In Harlem, but was rejected by the film’s producers, who dismissed it as ‘the same old James Brown stuff.’

“The Payback is considered a high point in Brown’s career, and is now regarded by critics as a landmark funk album, as well as one of Brown’s best albums. Its revenge-themed title track, a #1 R&B hit, is one of his most famous songs and an especially prolific source of samples for record producers.”
