The Staten Island Peace Conference - September 11, 1776

British Admiral Lord Howe and Continental Congress representative Benjamine Franklin, John Adams, and Edward Rutledge met to discuss a possible settlement of the emerging American Revolution. The three-hour conference found no agreement and the British resumed their campaign to capture New York City. The conference, although not successful, demonstrated the hopes both sides fostered that the rebellion could be settled and the American Colonies continue to be part of the British Empire. Similar efforts to resolve conflicts at their early stages have occurred frequently in American history and are part of the current conflicts in which we are engaged.

Future Vashon Performers

This July Jeff and John play tracks from acts that will be performing on Vashon in the near and distant future. Those acts include Grey Larsen and Cindy Kallet (Episcopal Church, July 24), Skerryvore (VCA, October 11), Julie Fowlis (VCA, February 3) and Lunasa (VCA, March 18). We also play new music from David Munnelly and Mick Connelly, Enda Scahill, Rianne Downey, Maria Dunn and Yann Falquet who performed recently at the Episcopal Church.

We play one of Kat’s songs, because she wasn’t there to stop me. Also included is a song composed in a cafe in Edinburgh sometime in the ’50’s and later made famous by Seattle’s own Jimi Hendrix. Thanks for supporting VoV

Boogie Back to Texas

Wednesday, 6-7 PM

Hands and Rings

Boogie Back host Geoff Fletcher revisits the last of four shows related to body parts – hands. As he was putting the show together, he noticed a lot of rings, from those adorning the hands to rings or circles of life; both are in the show. Tune in to hear songs about wedding rings from George Jones, The Derailers, Buddy Miller (one of the best titles for a song – Does My Ring Burn Your Finger?) and Roy Orbison. Jerry Jeff and Asleep at the Wheel sing of wheels of different kinds. Jeffrey Martin and Steve Earle have similar negative sentiments about hands on guns, and both Jerry Lee Lewis and Ruthie Foster have a take on the Ring of Fire, very different takes. Other thoughts of hands come from Junior Brown, Townes Van Zandt, Slaid Cleaves and Alejandro Escovedo. Put Your hands together for a great show!
