Boogie Back to Texas
Wednesday, 6-7 PM
Lubbock Musicians
Boogie Back host Geoff Fletcher continues his tour of Texas cities that have a raft of musicians hailing from them. The tour stops this week in Lubbock and environs. A couple of songs – Flatland Boogie and Levelland – note the geography characteristic of this part of the state. Who knew that the Lubbock area was the birth of Texas swing with the King of Texas swing, Bob Wills, and Tommy X Hancock leading the way.
Some of the most recognizable voices anywhere – Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison and JD South – hail from this area as well. Some Lubbock musicians haven’t cared for it, like Natalie Maines and the Chicks who chime in with Lubbock or Leave It, likewise, James McMurtry with the aforementioned Levelland. The Flatlanders and Guy Clark bring their amazing songwriter chops to the show, and Angela Strehli and Delbert McClinton kick it out. The show closes out with an all-star cast from Austin City Limits’ 40-year anniversary show covering Buddy’s Not Fade Away. Tune in to hear it all.
