This episode will also discuss some examples of Vashon independence like the 4th of July Hydro Races and the numerous failed attempts by Vashon to become independent from King County.

Future Vashon Performers

This July Jeff and John play tracks from acts that will be performing on Vashon in the near and distant future. Those acts include Grey Larsen and Cindy Kallet (Episcopal Church, July 24), Skerryvore (VCA, October 11), Julie Fowlis (VCA, February 3) and Lunasa (VCA, March 18). We also play new music from David Munnelly and Mick Connelly, Enda Scahill, Rianne Downey, Maria Dunn and Yann Falquet who performed recently at the Episcopal Church.

We play one of Kat’s songs, because she wasn’t there to stop me. Also included is a song composed in a cafe in Edinburgh sometime in the ’50’s and later made famous by Seattle’s own Jimi Hendrix. Thanks for supporting VoV

Boogie Back to Texas

Wednesday, 6-7 PM

Best Living U.S Songwriters

The New York Times started a big kerfuffle in the music listening world when they published their list of the top 30 living American songwriters. Readers went wild with, “Where is…?” So, in response, the NYT created a top 100 list based on readers’ preferences. And, not surprising to Boogie Back listeners, many Texas songwriters made that list.

Tune in as host Geoff Fletcher highlights those talented songwriters and tries to pick his favorite from each. Included are, in alpha order (with the NYT reader ranking on the show), Beyonce, Sheryl Crow, Steve Earle, Patty Griffin, Don Henley, Lyle Lovett, James McMurtry, Kasey Musgraves, Willie Nelson, Stephen Stills, Jimmy Webb and Lucinda Williams. It’s an all-star show!
