A Vashon Minute

Monday Noon

Vashon Household

Just as the Islands' median house price has soared to over a million dollars, the federal government has announced it is cutting funding subsidies for 'affordable' housing here and nationwide. Vashon Household is the locus for Section 8 and government subsidized housing here on the Islands, and they are scrambling to meet the challenges this state of affairs presents. Tune in as host Susan McCabe talks with Vashon Household Board President Anne Atwell and newly appointed Executive Director Amy Drayer about the dramatic effects this government action could have on Island residents and the Island economy overall.

Friday, 11-midnight

Victor Wooten Funk Tunes

For this audio adventure we will be getting to know some of the funky music that Victor Lemonte Wooten, a well-known and in-demand American bassist, songwriter and record producer, created during his solo career. Unlike a lot of bassists who started playing bass in their teens, Victor started when he was two and was an active member of the family band, The Wooten Brothers Band when he was six.

Not familiar with this musician? And even if you are, think about checking out this show as I will be playing some of his funky tunes he has done, starting with his debut album, Show Of Hands, and then listening to tunes from some of his other albums:  What Did He Say, Yin-Yang, Live In America, Soul Circus and Trypnotyx, to name a few.

I hope you don’t miss this audio treat! And the great thing is you can listen to it any time, just by going to the TGIF Show page.

PAST EPISODES

Music and the Movies

Sunday, 7-8 PM

Bob Dylan

Long before he was the subject of the stirring biopic A Complete Unknown, Bob Dylan was into movies. In this episode, we'll recall some of the Nobel laureate's flings at soundtrack composing (the great Sam Peckinpah western Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid), acting and screenwriting (the cult curio Masked and Anonymous), cinema-verite documentary (Don’t Look Back), and concert films (The Last Waltz). We'll take some tracks from the experimental I'm Not There, in which Dylan is played by six different actors, and even let Timothee Chalamet grab the mic for something from A Complete Unknown. So don't think twice—just join us for a Dylan celebration.
