VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH
Sleepy Hollow Parents' Club (SHPC) is proud to acknowledge Samantha Spector as Volunteer of the Month for April! In addition to recently hosting the hugely attended Wig Out party at her home, Samantha never shies from an opportunity to give her time to our school. With three students at Sleepy Hollow, you can regularly find her volunteering in the classroom, at Hungry Hollow, on field trips, and behind the scenes as a room parent. What an example of a stellar volunteer!

COMMUNITY COALITION
March is brimming with celebrations and observances. Among these are Women's History MonthHoli, the Indian festival of colors; St. Patrick's Day, a celebration of Irish heritage (it's also when kids think of catching some mischievous leprechauns); and Ramadan, one of the holiest months of the year for our Muslim community members.

This year, Ramadan started at sundown on Wednesday, March 22nd, marking the beginning of a month of fasting and spiritual rejuvenation for practicing Muslims. For non-Muslims, how can we show respect and support for community members who observe Ramadan? Here's an excellent guide to help us. Ramadan ends with Eid-al-Fitr on Friday, April 21st.
Another big celebration this March is Nowruz, the Persian New Year. Nowruz ("now" for new and "ruz" for day), which is celebrated on spring equinox and began this year on Monday, March 20th, is one of the most joyous occasions on the calendar for millions of people across the globe. Nowruz has been celebrated for thousands of years in many countries including Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, and more. Observers of the holiday typically start preparing weeks in advance, partaking in spring cleaning rituals and arranging their haft-sins, the traditional centerpiece of seven talismans beginning with the letter "s" that signifies rebirth and renewal. It's a fun celebration that involves the entire family. Happy Nowruz to all our families who observe this celebration! Reference: All About Nowruz for Kids.
