IEEE EXCELLENCE IN PULSED POWER AWARD GOES TO A SHPE MEMBER

Stacie Hernandez, a Ph.D. candidate at The University of New Mexico, has been awarded the IEEE NPSS Robert J. Barker Graduate Student Award for Excellence in Pulsed Power Applications. She received the honor in June in Berlin, along with a $3,000 prize and travel support. A SHPE member and STEM advocate, Stacie’s work at Sandia National Labs and her dedication to mentoring future engineers make her a true inspiration!

Starting as a high school intern at the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), Sandra Flores Castillo, a rising geospatial professional now mentors student workers exploring careers in transportation and government. A University of Minnesota alum, she promotes programs like Phoenix and Seeds, and recently became an ambassador for the “Get Kids into Survey” initiative. With experience in photogrammetry and remote sensing, she aims to inspire future innovators and Latino leaders.

The Fall 2025 InternSHPE Prep cohort will take part in a series of workshops to help them successfully look for their first major internship or career opportunity. We are looking for mentors that can assist students with their development throughout this course. Topics will include resume development, job searching tips, interview skills, and effective networking.
