GREETINGS FROM
 SISTER BRIDGET ZANIN, MSC AND
 REVEREND MSGR. RICHARD HYNES
We pray that you and your loved ones are doing well despite the challenging pandemic related circumstances. As you may have seen, Cardinal Cupich recently shared a multi-phased plan for reopening Worship opportunities in the Archdiocese of Chicago. The following phases pertain to the Shrine:

1. Phase 1A allows the Shrine to reopen for private prayer with a limit of 10 attendees.

2. Phase II allows for Masses with larger groups depending on official guidelines from the State and the capacity of the Shrine.

SHRINE REOPENING PLAN
Currently, we are concentrating on Phase 1A. In this effort, we will prioritize the safety and wellbeing of all while maintaining due respect and reverence for the liturgical norms of our faith.

We are establishing a Reopening Leadership Team that includes Shrine Staff and Volunteers. Together, we are required to attend training from the Archdiocese to ensure that the Shrine reopening plan conforms to civic and ecclesial guidelines. Archdiocesan protective materials and cleaning supplies assist in keeping our space along with staff, volunteers and visitors safe.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Volunteers are needed to assist with various aspects of our reopening plan. Importantly, leadership team members must not be part of a "vulnerable population" (that is, not over the age of 65; no underlying medical condition such as diabetes; lung disease; undergoing cancer treatment, etc.) We GREATLY appreciate anyone who is not in a vulnerable category to consider assisting with our reopening.

Sample duties include:
* Ensuring disinfectant supplies are readily available for visitors.
* Properly marking and ensuring that visitors are safely entering and exiting through designated entrances and exits.
* Ensuring all visitors are wearing a mask and use hand sanitizer upon their entrance to the Shrine.
* Managing the flow of visitors entering the Shrine and the Chapel.
* Directing people to appropriate seating areas.
* Maintaining and cleaning trafficked areas of the Shrine before and after private prayer. Masks/gloves and cleaning/disinfecting supplies will be provided to volunteers.

All volunteer members of the Reopening Leadership Team will be properly trained. If you are interested please send an email to marketing@cabrininationalshrine.org or call Lori Schneider at  773-570-3313.

TIME FOR REOPENING

Once our leadership team is assigned and everyone has completed required training, our reopening certification form will need approval from the Archdiocese of Chicago. Following our certification approval, we open as confidence grows with our volunteers in place and at a pace and timing that seems appropriate for our situation.

Because we must limit the number of attendees for private prayer to minimize the risk of the spread of disease, and in order to avoid "turning people away" at our doors, we have established an email registration system. Once a reopening date has been established, we will email you with information about how to signup. We ask you to be patient as we establish this new system.

Science guides our collective cooperation to reopen worship. Our individual and collective willingness to unite remain a demonstration of our unity and love for one another. Soon, hopefully, the reopening will also include PHASE II where we can meet at the Table of the Word and the Table of the Eucharist. Even gathered with masks and appropriate distancing, we will praise the Risen Lord, opening ourselves to the working of the Holy Spirit in our midst.

With the inspiration of Mother Cabrini who assisted others during the pandemic of her time, we remain steadfast in faith, hope and love.

Yours in Christ,

Sister Bridget Zanin, MSC, RN Executive Director

and Reverend Msgr. Richard Hynes, Rector
