President's Message - Nancy Burford, SHRM-SCP, SPHR
Greetings SHRM-KC Members:

I met a friend for lunch this past week and she asked me why I decided to get involved with SHRM-KC, my reply was probably more than she anticipated, but I am passionate about SHRM-KC and am eager to share this with other HR professionals.

Over the years, SHRM-KC has provided me with an outlet to do the things that I enjoy most, including giving back to the community by leading Certification Classes, Mentoring, Networking with HR professionals from throughout the state, Learn from experts in their field and expand my thinking about the workplace. I have also had the great opportunity to learn about other organizations, Learn Creative Ways to Lead, Employment Law updates etc... SHRM-KC is the constant regardless of where you are in your professional career or the size of the organization that you support, you can rely on outstanding programming and content that you can immediately take back to your workplace.

After lunch, I reflected on our conversation and thought it was important to once again share my enthusiasm and to encourage all members to take advantage of your membership and get involved. If you are wondering ‘how to’ do this, then go to the SHRM-KC web-site and check out our upcoming Events, select the events that interest you and plan to attend and/or participate. If you are a HR Generalist or if you are interested in specializing in a specific area of Human Resources then there are opportunities for you to join a committee. This is a tremendous way for you to expand your Human Resources network.

I look forward to seeing you at an upcoming SHRM-KC event.

The pandemic has upended everything about the workplace, but far and away the biggest challenge facing leaders isn’t technology, innovation, or even leadership: It’s engendering a culture that readily finds, develops, and engages the right talent to thrive now and in the future. Informed by more than 70 years of SHRM experience and expertise and propelled by extensive original research, RESET delivers a candid and forward-thinking vision for leaders to reimagine their company cultures in a time of global upheaval and presents data-driven strategies to make the necessary foundational reset of all things work. Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., SHRM-SCP, President and Chief Executive Officer of SHRM – the Society for Human Resource Management, is the right voice at the right time to challenge long-held assumptions and lead the revolution to build better workplaces for a better world.
