HR Innovators
It’s not about corrective actions or performance improvement plans. It’s about “doing the right thing and treating people the right way.” Steph Barron has been an HR Leader for nearly 25 years and is currently the Head of Human Resources for Stonebridge Senior Living in St. Louis. In January 2018 she launched a Coaching and Counseling Program that has increased employee retention more than 15%. The program follows a simple concept of “teach, train and coach,” and includes a five step process. When navigating a coaching or counseling conversation Steph recommends taking this approach for optimal output; 1) Identify the opportunities and not the problems; 2) Brainstorm; 3) Create “the Plan” with the employee ; 4) Commit to follow up; and 5) Recognize any achievements. Steph spends time working with community leaders directly to assist them in using this model successfully and progress from good to great, to great to excellent and is proud to say that the improvement in overall communication is by far the greatest accomplishment that we have seen. Happy and engaged employees create a successful environment and a happy workplace.

Career Transitions
As HR Professionals we usually are helping employees with their transitions - whether it be to other positions, new bosses or transitioning out of the company. We don't normally think of career transitions occurring to us, especially if they are unexpected or involuntary. Click here to read more.
