June 19th Breakfast Meeting - "Prisoner to Productive Employee...A Proven Path Forward"
The U.S. Probation Office Eastern District of Missouri has been recognized nationally for development of a model workforce development program for ex-offenders. The New York Times highlighted these efforts on the front page of the Business Section reinforcing why this makes good business sense for employers. Research has also shown that employment has the greatest impact in reducing crime and recidivism. Learn about another approach to workforce development making a positive impact in people's lives. This presentation will share information about the training provided to prepare returning citizens for employment, as well as incentives for employers who provide a second chance. 2019 Spring Mentoring Class

The Spring 2019 SHRM St. Louis Mentoring Class kicked off in early June with nine protégés and three mentors. For this cohort, we are creating mentoring "triads", where two protégés work with one mentor as a group. Click here to read more.

LGBT Pride: Community Stories

In each community there are identifies people may prefer to define themselves to the outside world. In the LGBT community this includes terms such as gay, queer, lesbian, or non-binary. You may not be able to tell just by looking, but be careful what identifier assumptions you make about someone else. Robin Sharma, a motivational speaker, author, and former lawyer, said, "Remember, we see the world not as it is but as we are. Most of us see through the eyes of our fears and our limiting beliefs and our false assumptions." ( Resources) LGBT terminology has been a hot topic. The words you use whether in English or sign language can exclude or include those with whom you are speaking. Find more information in this blog about how to respect non-binary people's journeys.
