Message From the President
Building on our theme of "Transforming Human Resources into Valued Experts", we have a lot to be excited for in 2019. Our programs committee continues to bring quality speakers and impactful content to you on a monthly basis and March is no exception. At our March 20th Breakfast Meeting we have the pleasure of hosting Dale Kreienkamp who will be discussing Career Transitions, which we all know are an opportunity for personal growth and development as a professional. Even if you are not considering a career transition, you may have a co-worker or staff member who needs help through the process. For that reason, we truly feel this applies to each and every one of us. Click here to read more.
March 20th Breakfast Meeting -
"Career Transitions"
Career transitions are an opportunity for personal growth and development as a professional. Sometimes they are self-initiated, like seeking a new role or a new position. More often though, career transitions for employees are unexpected, initiated by the organization, e.g. a position is eliminated, a layoff, an organization is sold or merged, a department is realigned and now reports to a different leader, etc. As HR professionals we have a responsibility to help our organization and the employees navigate those unexpected changes, but those changes can also impact us. How prepared are you to help those where you serve? How prepared are you to help yourself if the unexpected happens to you? How will you assess when it's time for you to initiate a career transition? Learn tips that will help you manage your career and help others. Click here for more information and to register.
March 26th Webinar - "Transparency, Advocacy & Education: Three Pillars to any Employee Benefit Program"
Navigating the insurance landscape can be challenging and, as an HR Department of One, you are expected to be the expert. This session will provide insight into the key considerations when determining the best approach to medical benefits. Click here for more information and to register.

National Deaf History Month: Discrimination in Your Workplace?
Contributed by Hannah Hayes, Inclusion & Diversity Committee

You are always working to ensure your company's success and inclusion. But you might not realize at times you inadvertently discriminate in your interactions or hiring choices with job applicants or employees. As we remember National Deaf History Month from March 13-April 15, we spoke with attorney Brian Flieg to ask how he accommodates his clients. This can be applied to employees and how to provide nondiscriminatory access for them. Click here to read more. As shared here, you may need to hire a sign language interpreter or provide another specific access to be compliant with the ADA. There is always the possibility of a lawsuit if effective communication is refused; but more importantly, you want to bring the value of diversity to your workplace! (Ex. Accommodations for Deaf Prisoners) NOTE: SHRM supports nondiscrimination in a work environment. ( SHRM Nondiscrimination Policy)
