NYMC to Celebrate Visionary Public Health Leaders at Annual Founder’s Dinner |
NYMC is pleased to announce the 2024 Founder's Dinner will be celebrated on Thursday, September 26, honoring Robert W. Amler, M.D., M.M.S., M.B.A., FAAP, FACPM, dean of SHSP, vice president for government affairs and professor of public health, pediatrics, and environmental health science; Sherlita Amler, M.D., M.S, Ed.S., R.N., F.A.A.P., C.E.M., commissioner of health for Westchester County, adjunct professor of public health and clinical associate professor of pediatrics; and Edward Chew, M.D. ‘03, FACEP, chief executive officer for Physician Affiliate Group of New York, chief of emergency medicine and deputy chief medical officer of Harlem Hospital, and a member of the NYMC Board of Advisors, for their outstanding contributions to medicine, public health, and education at the Surf Club on the Sound in New Rochelle.

Teeing Off for Tomorrow’s Scholars at the Golf Outing |
| | Sunshine and clear skies made for a perfect day at the fourth annual NYMC Golf Outing and Reception at the Saint Andrew's Golf Club. The event was the most successful to date, raising more than $200,000 with 130 golfers taking to the course, reveling in the pleasant weather as they tested their skills in a putting and hole-in-one contest. An evening reception, with more than 175 attendees, honored Kenneth Theobalds, center, a member of New York Medical College’s Board of Trustees and president and managing partner of RiverRun Partners LLC. The event was sponsored by the Board of Advisors (BOA) and chaired by Martin Katzenstein, M.D. '78, chair of the BOA, assistant dean for clinical affiliations, and associate professor of pediatrics. "I want to thank everyone for coming to to this great event at Saint Andrew's and for their support," said Dr. Katzenstein. “We were thrilled to have such a beautiful day for our annual golf outing," said Bess J. Chazhur, M.S., chief development officer and executive director of alumni relations. "The mood was fun and festive as we celebrated trustee Ken Theobalds for his longtime commitment to supporting NYMC students."

NYMC Welcomes First-Year Students to SHSP |
NYMC recently welcomed more than 150 first-year students to the SHSP. Students who are beginning their education in public health, physical therapy, speech-language pathology, participated in orientation sessions covering health services, student support, professionalism, upcoming courses, managing bias in health care, and financial planning.

Dr. Vikas Grover Named Chair of the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences |
Vikas Grover, Ph.D., CCC-SLP, was appointed chair of the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences effective September 1. He will continue to serve as the chief of the Division of Speech-Language Pathology, in addition to associate professor of speech-language pathology and director of speech perception and production. Dr. Grover joined NYMC in 2018 and continues to be a knowledgeable and valuable leader in the SHSP. “Dr. Grover has shown exceptional capabilities in leadership and innovative strategies to improve program effectiveness,” said Robert W. Amler, M.D., M.B.A., dean of the SHSP and vice president for government affairs. “He has an interprofessional outlook, in particular, that will make him effective in leading our degree programs in therapeutic specialties.”

NYMC Receives $900,000 HECap Award |
NYMC has been awarded $900,000 from New York State for the expansion and improvement of the Center for Disaster Medicine at 7 Dana Road and the Physical Therapy Clinical Skills Facility in the School of Health Sciences and Practice.
