A Message from the Dean

Dear SHSP colleagues,

Welcome to SHSP’s summer newsletter in which we highlight recent triumphs and great prospects on the horizon.

Join me in warmly welcoming the SHSP Class of 2024 into the SHSP alumni community as they embark on their professional career and congratulate them on their endeavors in physical therapy, speech-language pathology, and public health. We look forward to their bright futures and continued engagement with the College community.

Great thanks and appreciation to our commencement speaker, Dr. James McDonald, New York State Commissioner of Health, Grand Marshall Dr. Monica McHenry, professor of speech-language pathology, and Mace Bearer Dr. Douglas York, adjunct assistant professor of public health. Special recognition and thanks go to Ms. Abby Cofsky, M.P.H. ‘24, who delivered a very thoughtful address on behalf of our wonderful graduates after Chancellor/CEO Dr. Edward Halperin conferred their degrees.

Summer is fast approaching and so is NYMC’s highly anticipated Annual Golf Tournament and Reception at The Saint Andrew's Golf Club on Monday, June 17. The golf outing raises funds for student scholarship support and raises our spirits in an enjoyable setting. Even non-golfers, like me, can enjoy spending time with good food and company.

This year, we are proud to honor my good friend Kenneth Theobolds, a dedicated member of the NYMC Board of Trustees. Don't miss out!

Looking ahead, we will be enjoying bigger and better classroom spaces, as well as continuous improvement of campus experiences and instructional formats that help our students pursue mastery of the complex knowledge and skills attendant to their chosen fields of health science and practice. After all, that’s what S.H.S.P. stands for!

Great thanks are due to Dr. Benjamin F. Johnson, vice dean, and Ms. Michelle Novotny, senior associate dean for enrollment management, as well as our senior associate deans, department chairs, division chiefs, program directors, and world-class faculty,

As always, we appreciate your continued support and engagement with the NYMC community. Together, we will continue to foster an environment of excellence and innovation.

Robert W. Amler, M.D., M.B.A.

Dean

Days of Giving Raises $331,271 for Student Scholarships

The NYMC community rose to the occasion for the seventh annual Days of Giving and raised $331,271 for student scholarships. The College received 255 gifts from 244 donors hailing from 25 states, along with matching gifts from a generous group of donors that will impact the lives of students in the SOM, SHSP, and GSBMS. "It's truly an honor to be part of this team and contribute to our program's mission of giving back," said Sunita Kumawat, an M.P.H. candidate and Days of Giving ambassador. Donations for Days of Giving may still be made to support student scholarships.
