SIA School Newsletter

March 21, 2023

Dear Parents,

On Sunday, March 19, 2023 our Early Years program had a great community event with NADIV, the men’s giving circle from UJFT. They helped prepare our garden for spring. Together with our EY faculty they weeded the beds, added new soil for our spring vegetables and flowers, and painted our flower beds. A special thank you to NADIV volunteers for giving our garden a much needed makeover for the new season!

On Wednesday, March 22 - Thursday, March 23, 2023 the campus is hosting a Statewide Law Enforcement Conference in our multipurpose room. Therefore, no need to be alarmed when you see a large number of law enforcement vehicles in our parking lots on these two days. A huge thank you to all of our law enforcement for keeping our community safe!

Early Years Spring pictures and Primary Years make up pictures are this week- March 22 - 23.

Please mark your calendars, there is no school on Friday, March 24, 2023, for a Professional Development Day. Early Years Fullcare and JCC SDO camp is closed.

SIA’s annual Phonathon will take place Tuesday, March 28, 2023 from 1:30pm - 3:30pm in the library. If you are interested in joining us for lunch and fundraising, please reach out to Carin Simon, Director of Advancement for more information.

Fifth Grade Produce Drive

Kol Hakavod Strelitz Community! The fifth graders were blown away by your support of their produce drive last week. As an IB School, we learn about and celebrate certain characteristics called the Learner Profile Attributes. These attributes are used to celebrate and nurture the characteristics that we want to grow and develop throughout our lives. The two learner profile attributes the fifth graders selected that pertain to this project are 'Caring' and 'Principled'. As part of their Who We Are Unit of Inquiry, the fifth graders learned about food insecurity and food deserts. They were inspired to take action and set out on organizing a 'big mitzvah project' to benefit the For Kids Shelter in Chesapeake.

The fifth grade knew that the SIA community would support their mitzvah project because they too are caring and principled. What the fifth graders did not anticipate was the amazing generosity of our school community! The grand total was over 600 pieces of produce. This total far exceeded their goal of collecting 131 pieces of produce. An IB learning community learns together and from each other. Thank you so much for supporting this produce drive and helping our fifth graders learn a little more about being caring and principled!

SIA Garden Revamp with Nadiv

The true meaning of community and kehillah. NADIV, the men’s giving circle of the United Jewish Federation of Tidewater helped us get “garden-ready” for spring on Sunday afternoon! Our EY faculty joined efforts with NADIV to give our garden a much needed makeover. Thank you to all!

Thank you for Supporting the Book Fair!

Dear SIA Families & Friends,

I’m sending my sincere gratitude for making our Scholastic Book Fair an outstanding success! We exceeded our goals and your generosity was “Over the Top”!

Thanks to your contributions, we sold hundreds of books at our fair. We also collected money for All for Books™, a program turning book fair donations into books for children who cannot afford them.

My reward for hosting a book fair is watching your kids discover new books. All that joy wouldn’t be possible without volunteers from our school community – you deserve my special thanks.

If your child missed out on the Fair (or already finished every new book), there’s still time to shop! Our Scholastic Book Fair will continue online through March 26, 2023. Your online purchases benefit our school. Please feel free to continue to use any funds remaining on your eWallets; those funds do not expire. Click below to shop our fair:

I hope to see you and your child at our next Fair. Until then, happy reading!

Gratefully,

Ms. Garbers

SIA Annual Donor Fund

Recently we held our Parent and Faculty Campaign to raise funds for our Annual Donor Fund. The SIA Annual Donor Fund is the primary vehicle for financially supporting Strelitz International Academy (SIA).

SIA depends on support from current and alumni parents and grandparents, faculty, trustees along with friends in the extended community who believe in SIA’s mission, to meet the school’s operating expenses, enrich the student experience, and ensure financial sustainability.

By making a tax-deductible donation to Strelitz International Academy, you will be joining with others to make a difference in the everyday lives of Strelitz’s students and faculty.
