Portland SIM announces 2021 Oregon CIO and CISO of the Year Award Recipients

OHSU’s CIO & SVP, Bridget Barnes, and City of Portland’s CISO Christopher Paidhrin Recognized for Excellence in Technology Leadership

SIM Portland, the Portland chapter of the Society for Information Management (SIM), has named Bridget Barnes, SVP & CIO of OHSU as the "2021 Oregon CIO of the Year" and Christopher Paidhrin, CISO of City of Portland as the "2021 Oregon CISO of the Year". The annual awards recognize executives who have demonstrated excellence in technology leadership within their organizations and community and charitable involvement in the greater Portland region. The selection panel for each Award consists of their peers. The recipients will be honored at our virtual awards event on September 8th. To attend, register at simpdx.org

2021 Oregon CIO of the Year: Bridget Barnes, OHSU



Bridget Barnes is Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon. With over 20 years of leadership experience, her career has focused on information technology, information security technology, compliance, strategic planning, and governance. As a highly collaborative leader, she brings the ability to conceptualize long-term strategies while driving direct tactical execution, eliminating barriers, and driving cultural transformation.


Throughout her career, she has served a variety of national organizations in advancing technology in the domains of healthcare, research, and academia. She is a Certified Health Chief Information Officer (CHCIO) and has engaged in leadership, change management, and disaster response and recovery training. She embraces lifelong learning and teaching, leveraging her experience to mentor others, especially women in STEM.

2021 Oregon CISO of the Year: Christopher Paidhrin, City of Portland



Christopher Paidhrin's mission over the past 21 years of his information security leadership and service has been to 'add lasting value. Christopher is an internationally recognized public sector and healthcare information security authority and mentor, having received recognition and awards for service excellence, including NetworkWorld, ISE (iise.org), SC Magazine, and Information Security magazine’s 2011 “Security 7” Award. For the past six years, Christopher has been the Senior (Chief) Information Security Officer for the City of Portland, Oregon, aligning cybersecurity best practices with Citywide services and values, including equity, diversity, privacy, and open data governance.


Christopher is actively engaged with cybersecurity peers across regional and national communities including, Information Systems Security Association, Portland (ISSA past president: https://portland.issa.org/), Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA https://www.isaca.org/), and Multi-State Information Sharing & Analysis Center (Business Resiliency Committee, MS-ISAC https://www.cisecurity.org/ms-isac/).


Christopher is also an advocate of IT Service Management (ITSM) best practices and continuous process improvement, including learning organizations and knowledge management. The lasting value of lessons learned is multiplied when they are shared.
