Summer 2021
Welcome to SIMCenter's Quarterly Update
As the newest member to the SIMCenter Team, I greet you with encouragement and excitement as we return to our normal outside lives and enjoy this beautiful weather. The SIMCenter continues to become an amazing footprint here at the Ohio State University, College of Engineering. While COVID-19 has guaranteed that our lives will never be the same, we continue to fight for more of an open and inclusive life with our family, friends and here in the SIMCenter. SIMCenter staff have returned to work at least two days a week, we are up and running to get back on track and making some amazing accomplishments.
Although we have not been on campus, SIMCenter’s researchers and students have been busy and we have started to look forward to Autumn and all the achievements to follow. Over the past quarter, SIMCenter has been involved in many projects including, developing features in cars that will advance the safety of our family when we return to our normal on-the-road travels. Please take a minute to see how we have stayed busy during this last quarter and how we continue to advance in simulation and modeling.

Let’s continue to fight for a safer community and prospering University.

Feature Article
ADAS simulation project helps development of autonomous vehicle features
When most people think of the cars of the future, they think of cars equipped with Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS).

A new research project headed by SIMCenter researcher Punit Tulpule aims to create simulation scenarios to test level three ADAS features, such as obstacle avoidance and emergency braking.
From aortic heart valves to consumer products: Zhenyu Wang is an asset to SIMCenter
Dr. Zhenyu Wang is an incredible asset to the SIMCenter research team.

Wang, who specializes in computational fluid dynamics, has led projects in topics ranging from acoustic simulation of dishwasher noise and vibration to simulation of aortic heart valves to reduce blood damage in patients.
Master's student develops ADAS skills through SIMCenter projects
Shanthan Padisala, a Hyderabad, India native and second-year graduate student at Ohio State, has a passion for ADAS. When he isn't playing volleyball, hiking or working toward his master's in mechanical engineering, he can be found working on ADAS-oriented simulation projects at the SIMCenter.
Rodrigo Formas brings agricultural perspective to EAB
External Advisory Board member Rodrigo Formas understands the importance of simulation, especially in the field of agricultural engineering.

As an analysis and simulation manager at John Deere, Formas works to expand the company's use of simulation. As a SIMCenter EAB member, he brings a unique agricultural perspective and helps promote opportunities for simulation skill development in young engineers.
Collaborative Internship Program creates opportunities for students and companies
The SIMCenter Collaborative Internship is a unique opportunity that prepares undergraduate engineering students for simulation and modeling work.

Participating students complete a summer internship with an eligible company, then continue building their CAE skills into the school year with a position at the SIMCenter.
