Enhancing the lives of women and youth

in our community and the world.

Stop! Wait! According to Phil we have 6 more weeks of winter! Happy Ground Hog Day everyone!

President Paula welcomed everyone to this morningʻs meeting. Nice to have a break in the snow for a bit.

Our Invocation was provided by Lydia: As always her words remind us to be grateful. " I love places that remind you how tiny you and your problems are. Our footprints must come from acts of kindness and love and appreciation for the gifts we have, not regret for what we lack. "

Today's guests: We had the pleasure of Theresa and Janet visiting. We hope to see you both regularly, you are a great fit with our club.

Sunshine: Our hearts go out to the family, friends and LTCC colleagues of Clinton Culp as well as the Family and friends of Kyle Smaine. Both wonderful men taken far to young.

Today was our Member Focus and Fun Day. This is our chance to learn more about each other and is always a big laugh. Today we focused on the question: What brings you to our Thursday morning meeting each week We all wrote down one word that answers that question. The most often shared word was "Friends". 7:30 is early, but friends make it worth it. See the photo below to see all the great answers.

After we shared why we come to weekly meetings, we shared why we joined the Soroptimist organization, and the overall response was Community connectedness and service. What a great club, so many likeminded, intelligent, resourceful, talented and big-hearted women!

2023 FUNdraiser: Wow, do we have a lot to offer in the way of fun! We must be bonkers! We have FOUR things going on at once!

First, you can be a CLUB Sponsor for SITS. Learn more about sponsorship here and partner with us for the good of others!

Second, the club has started two (yes two) raffles for exciting vacations. One is a week's stay in a Kihei, Maui condo, and the other is a week's stay at an RCI timeshare anywhere in the world!

Your odds are great too, just 200 tickets will be sold for each vacation location! Tickets are $50 each and include six nights and seven days of accommodations (no airfare). To enter, or find out more information, visit Maui Raffle HERE, and RCI Timeshare Anywhere in the World Raffle HERE. Winners will be drawn at 5 p.m. on May 12, 2023. Since it is all online, no need to be present to win, and the club's president will call the winners that night!

Third will be the inaugural Mad Hatter Tea Party from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at Valhalla! Only 100 tickets will be sold. Dressing up is not required but would certainly be fun: Create a Mad Hatter hat with ideas from Pinterest and the internet, or come in costume and join them down the rabbit hole where being “bonkers” is quite alright. Tickets are available SOON, so check back soon at www.sitsfundraiser.org to purchase the limited tickets. You’ll enjoy an array of tasty treats, tea, and entertainment, and you’ll have a chance to bid on Signature Soroptimist Baskets all within the beauty of the Grand Hall at Valhalla Tahoe.

Lastly is the club's famous ONLINE AUCTION We post new donations almost daily (we end up hosting 350 donations annually!) and you can begin your bidding on April 30th as well! The generous business community is donating so there are many items to bid on, and they can be viewed HERE.

Our Raffle and Auction Winners will be announced on May 12, 2023 at 5PM! In order to purchase any of our items, you will need to REGISTER to bid, so do so now! Thank you to everyone who makes this possible. TOGETHER we are changing the lives of many.

Mt. Tallac NEWS!

Congratulations to the 5 students of Mt. Tallac High School for their accomplishments, dedication, and their mid-year GRADUATION! Yeah! We are so very proud of all of you and proud of your teachers.

And weʻd like to share a special recognition to

Kevin Rico was chosen as Superstar Student for January.

All of the teachers commended Kevin for making a huge improvement, and becoming a dedicated student. Way to go Kevin! You are setting an example for your fellow students and youth throughout the community.

Healthy Women-Healthy World:

What happens when SITS Members, Lasagna Love, and Bread & Broth all collide? Wonderful things for everyone, of course! SITS has adopted two separate Bread & Broth evenings and we assisted by being servers for the Jan. 30th Bread & Broth.

Lasagna Love is another one of those brilliant "ideas" just started from the heart and mind of ONE person that is now sweeping the world with kindness. Seriously, the world!

Everyone can be involved in Lasagna Love in one way or another. Several of our members are crew for the international group, Lasagna Love. This movement is feeding those who could use a delicious hug and reminder that "they are important" . Do you know someone who could use a lasagna?? That single mom with kids, an individual on their own and elderly? Someone with a recent loss? They can order for themselves, or you can nominate them here!

Lasagna Love has people all over the world who volunteer in one way or another. YOUR local area probably has a division but if not, create one! Check the websites of both organizations and become involved in your community.

From AWARDS Committee: Please send your suggested Ruby Award applicant and a description to Nancy as soon as possible. We vote next week at the February business meeting.

The decorating committee for our Mad Hatter Tea Party will have their first meeting at Lisa Cali's house on Monday, February 13th at 6 pm.

The Scholarship committee will meet on March 8, 5 pm at Wendy's house, mark your calendars now!

SITS Committees - Chairs please update your descriptions!

Tahoe Womenʻs Community Fund, a collective giving organization , will be giving away $100,000 this granting cycle, because of the amazing donations we had from all of our returning and new members, plus of course our matching money from Lisa Maloff, our Angel of Tahoe! Her legacy lives on!!!!

Any nonprofit serving the South Shore of Lake Tahoe may apply during our granting cycle (From Feb. 13-March 9), but nonprofits may ONLY APPLY for ONE grant in ONE area of need, and as always, nonprofits who received a grant in 2022 are ineligible to apply for this cycle (they can reapply in 2024).

Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless seeks community support in keeping people warm this winter

As our Tahoe winter settles in with snow and frigid temperatures, most residents retreat to the inside for activities, comforts, and warm beds in a place we call home. Our South Shore community has been able to sleep better knowing that our homeless population has this option as well. This winter season marks the seventh anniversary of the Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless (TCH) providing warm beds to the most vulnerable in our community.

They are also in great need for clothing items and will accept donations at their office

The office hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 12-4 at the Red Lodge, 1137 Emerald Bay Rd. As the temperature drops they are in need of warm clothes and jackets, gloves, and hand warmers.
