President Lisa opened our beautiful morning at the Lisa Maloff University Center. We love having this venue for our meetings!

Lydia's invocation was a reminder about the true meaning of Memorial Day. It's not about BBQs and store sales, it's a day to recognize the contributions of our departed warriors and their families, who fought for our freedoms.

We all have an opportunity to show our respect this weekend. Flag laying for veterans in our Happy Homestead Cemetery is tomorrow, Friday 5/23 at 10AM. Bring a long screw driver to help prep holes for the flags. There is a Memorial Day Ceremony at the American Legion on Monday at 11 AM. And flag removal volunteers are needed on Tuesday, 5/27 at Happy Homestead. This is a great way to honor those that perished serving others. Great learning opportunities for our youth as well.

Sunshine continues in full force for our Warrior Wendy. She loves emails and text messages as she cherishes the love, and they are a comfort which brings her strength. Keep us posted girl!

And congratulations to member Karen Goldberg and the staff at the Family Resource Center as they received a grant from the Tahoe Women's Community Fund.

Today's recap!

There is no rest for the weary, right ladies! This morning we spent some of the time celebrating our Mad Hatter event which took place on Sunday, May 18th at Valhalla's Grand Hall. Lois (thank you Lois) then led us through a worthy debrief of our highlights and we generated ideas on how to make the execution this fantastic event even better! Thank you to Vanna for the note taking. All members will have an opportunity via email to add to our collective information.

This event was another success for the record books and thanks to the extra help this year, our ladies weren't nearly as tired as we've been in the past! This event takes a small army to come to fruition, but we want to send out an additional shout out to a few.

Our first shout out is to Coldwell Banker Select - Zephyr Cove as our Mad Hatter Event Sponsor! Thank you for your continued support. And to Meg Pearl and her crew at Valhalla Tahoe. We adore and appreciate all of you.

There are so many to thank, but let me call our a few of our leadership.

• Shelly and the gathering of our student leaders in our community who made the set up, serving, and take down of this awesome event so much easier for our club. They were amazing and our guests appreciated all of them so very much.
• Jeanne and her kitchen staff made up of LTCC Culinary experts and our own ladies. The food was tasty, creative, and beautiful. The guests loved everything. The amount of prep work that goes into this is over the top and each time. And add to that the many trips to Reno for items needed in advance and on the return. It's always pulled off seamlessly with professionalism and a smile. And an extra applause for the partnership you created with Sombreros (thank you Chuy!). The lunch was fabulous and much appreciated.
• Margie and her beverage crew who kept the tea and mimosas flowing. Special thanks to The Cork and More for sponsoring our mimosa table and to the volunteers who ran it. We had many happy guests!
• Amy, Lisa, Andrea, Paula, and all the decorations people. What can we say. We actually had a "business proposal" made to the club to consider based on your talents. They, and their mighty volunteers, spend months, and I mean months, building new and beautiful creations that have our guests overwhelmed when they enter. They just couldn't say enough great things. This is also the team that deals with the monstrous task of transporting everything and storing it. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
• To the dozen members who created the most amazing tablescapes and were hostesses to our 120 lucky guests!
• To the dozen members who created awesome themed raffle baskets for bidding at our event. Those guests absolutely loved their prizes. And a special thanks to Cookie for all the beautiful final touches in their presentation.
• To ALL the volunteers from our community who built, sold raffle tickets (Raven and Josh!), set up, served, cleaned up, and filled our UHaul (thank you SoroptiMisters!). It couldn't have happened without you.
• To Mr. John Valverde, our amazing photographer who takes the most amazing pictures that chronicle our efforts. You're welcome to see all of our beautiful photos by going here.
• To our membership of Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra for always staying on course, regardless of the work, as we follow our mission to enhance the lives of women and youth in our community and around the world.

Our Mad Hatter event is a celebration and opportunity for our community to come together in a magical setting full of whimsy, but we're not finished! Our Vacation Stay Raffle Tickets (winners drawn in the morning on May 30th) and our Online Auction (closes on May 30th at 8 PM) are what bring the big dollars to support the work this small club does.

Mt. Tallac Prom:  Thursday, May 29, 2025

Mt. Tallac has requested our support to make goodies for their Prom Dessert Bar: cookies, bars, cake, bundt cake, pie…any yummy dessert you would like to make!  You can drop what you have made off the morning of the prom (5/29/25) at Mt. Tallac HS (1100 Lyons Ave) between 8:00 - 12:00. OR at Valhalla between 3:30 - 5:00. ALSO, if you would like to make them ahead of time, I (Karen Houser) have room in my stand-up freezer, so just give me a call & I can arrange to get them from you. Text or call me at 530-318-8756.

Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless seeks community support in keeping people cared for.

Our South Shore community has been able to sleep better knowing that our homeless population has an indoor option. This winter season marked the seventh anniversary of the Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless (TCH) providing warm beds to the most vulnerable in our community.

The office hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 12-4 at the Red Lodge, 1137 Emerald Bay Rd.
