President Lisa opened our meeting on this beautiful spring morning.

Lydia gave a wonderful invocation about Mothers. Moms provide the road map to life. Those of us with good mothers appreciate their patience, kindness, love and generous spirts. It's not easy being a mother, if it were, more dads would do it.

Guests included Elizabeth Stork, Chief Administrative Officer at Barton Hospital, who discovered our club at the LTCC Earth Day celebration.

The Soroptimist Ruby award is for Women Helping Women and honors the first federation President Ruby Lee Minar. Ruby is also a gemstone associated with wisdom, importance, vitality, strength, power and love: All words embodying the award recipients. This award honors women who are making extraordinary differences in the lives of other women. Adrea Drew is our Ruby Award recipient this year. Cospire is an initiative founded by Andrea, a seasoned professional originally from South Africa, who now calls Lake Tahoe, USA, her home. With a wealth of experience in supporting organizations and fostering community-building efforts, Andrea created Cospire to empower women in the Tahoe region and beyond. Through mentorship, workshops, and networking events, Cospire offers a platform where women from diverse backgrounds can connect, share experiences, and support each other on their personal and professional journeys.

At the core of Cospire is mentorship. They pair seasoned leaders with emerging talent to foster collaboration and provide valuable guidance. Through workshops, networking events, and one-on-one mentorship, Cospire helps women navigate career challenges, build resilience, and cultivate the leadership skills necessary to excel. Cospire provides a space for all women to thrive. Andrea envisions a future where women across the Tahoe Basin and beyond are not only supported but empowered to reach their highest potential in their careers, communities, and lives.

Today was our monthly business meeting. We discussed Mad Hatter plans, went over treasurers reports and read correspondence.

We received Thank you cards from 2 scholarship recipients, Milan Riva and Aubrey Ireland. Both ladies are headed off to college in the fall and we wish them well. We also received a thank you from Zowadisha, a Kenyan non-profit, for whom we provide money for micro loans. see photo below.

Soroptimist SITSters and helpers are encouraged to show up to Valhalla on Sunday May 18th at 8-8:30 to start set up for our event. All hands on deck please!

Set up will be from 8-1:40 (then go change clothes)

Lunch will be provided by Sombreros from 11:30-1:30 for volunteers. Please take at least 20 min. to eat and drink.

Tear down from 5-7. All hands on deck again please!

1. NEW and oh so exciting! The 3rd Annual Mt. Tallac PROM will be at Valhalla on May 29th! They need help for a beautiful dessert bar for their celebration. Desserts can be dropped off the morning of the 29th or the afternoon of the 31st. Please email Karen Houser for information and let's get baking!
2. Please get all your donations in by the 15th of this month (only one week from now). This week's donation collector is Lisa Huard, so please forward everything to her asap.
3. Quarterly Member Dues are due at this time. These funds are how we pay for our overhead expenses so they are very important. Congratulations Kyra, Carson City, Nev. (May 8, 2025) — Carson High School Freshman Art Student Kyra Mulvihill (our SITSter Margie's neice) was selected as a Nevada State Winner in the 2025 “Celebrate the West” art competition, hosted by the Western Governors’ Association.

Miss Mulvihill painted her award-winning piece as part of a watercolor unit in Art Foundations, a beginning art class taught by Ms. Adriane Wacker.

Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless seeks community support in keeping people cared for.

Our South Shore community has been able to sleep better knowing that our homeless population has an indoor option. This winter season marked the seventh anniversary of the Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless (TCH) providing warm beds to the most vulnerable in our community.

The office hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 12-4 at the Red Lodge, 1137 Emerald Bay Rd.
