President Lisa Cali opened the SITS Club meeting at the Rec Center. She and her Board are so appreciated for their extra service as we all gear up for a year of work for our community and the world. We'd like to also recognize again our amazing CLUB SPONSORS and our CLUB DONOR. Their contribution works for our efforts all year long. Today's speakers, Bozi Tatarevic and Liz Prestella along with proud mama, Jeanne Prestella.

Liz is a SITS, Mount Tallac Scholarship annual sponsor and South Lake Tahoe Native. The founder and owner of Torq’d Clothing, she’s creating work wear for women with a Feminine twist. Which came out of need by working her day job in NASCAR as a Part specialist, road mechanic, tire specialist and pit crew member. Liz is living her dreams, and that inspired her to mentor and encourage other women and youth in her industry. She brings Bozi Tatarevic a Social Media expert. When Bozi isn’t winning races on pit crew or being a IMZA Champion (2023), he travels to other racing Circuits to report and update the public in all media formats We welcome the advice on how to improve our Clubs presence in Social Media. And learn something easy we can do on the way.

Liz left Tahoe after high school for North Carolina and vocational training in automotive with the goal of being on a NASCAR pit crew. She has worked her way up to the highest level of NASCAR and can change 4 tires in 13 seconds! She is one of only 15 females on the NASCAR circuit and the top female. Bozi also works in the pit at NASCAR, but has found a side career in social media. His advice was to use something you already do or have and publish it on social media. If you want to increase your outreach, tag others so they will share your post with their followers, who might then become your followers. Use your own images, or search images from Google. Just be sure you have permission to use other people's photos. If you tag the artist, they may repost and engage their followers. Repetition is a way to increase your presence. Bozi likes pie and frequently posts images of his desserts. Then others post their images and are excited to see the next, best pie! You can monitor the comments to your posts and delete offensive ones. Some platforms let you set filters and you can review comments before they even get posted to your page. Liz and Bozi gave us some great tips and it was eye opening to see what can be done with social media.

SITS Member Items & Our Projects

New Location!!

Starting August 8, 2024, our club will be meeting in a new location: The Lisa Maloff University Center at Lake Tahoe Community College. The center is a state of the art building with the most current multimedia equipment available. In addition, there is an outdoor patio adjacent to the center where members can break into groups to discuss projects post meetings, or friends can get together to catch up. What about when it snows? There is an area with seating and a fireplace that we can utilize during inclement weather. 

Parking: the Lisa Maloff Center has its own parking lot directly adjacent to the building so we don’t need to hike over from the student parking lot. 

Room Size: the rooms are quite large so much so that we will actually only use half of a room (there are built in room dividers) for most meetings with the ability to utilize a full room when needed.

SITS Annual Retreat will be held August 24, from 9am to 1:30pm. This is where we have a bit of fun and Fellowship along with discussing our goals and planning the coming year. If you haven't chosen, or are thinking about switching committees, this would be the time to find out more information. We will be DARK (no meeting) on August 22 due to the Saturday meeting.

Kiwanis AKTION Club Rummage Sale

Tomorrow, July 26 8:00am - 2:00pm

American Legion Post 795 (across from the Presbyterian Church)



The Aktion Club is made up of adults with disabilities. The reason for the fundraiser is to raise money to send members to the annual Aktion Club Education Convention at Wonder Valley near Fresno, Calif. Aktion Club members and parents will be on hand to answer any questions you may have regarding the purpose of their club and goals.

Looking for a fun evening of entertainment with the caveat of providing food for hungry children in Africa? Join the Hand an Foot tournament at Valhalla on August 2 at 5:00 pm. More information here.

Marcella Foundation Partners with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to Offer FREE books to Local Children

Marcella Foundation is thrilled to announce the launch of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in El Dorado County. Each month, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library will provide an age-appropriate book for each registered child, absolutely free to the family. All 8,000 children ages 0 to their 5th birthday living in El Dorado County can enroll now to receive a free monthly book. Any child in the home can register, and books are available in both English and Spanish. In a show of support for early literacy for all children in our region, First 5 El Dorado, El Dorado County Library, Friends of the Library, El Dorado Community Foundation partnered with Marcella Foundation to help launch Imagination Library. Additionally, United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra is providing the initial funding to bring Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to each of the communities surrounding Lake Tahoe.

Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless seeks community support in keeping people cared for.

Our South Shore community has been able to sleep better knowing that our homeless population has an indoor option. This winter season marked the seventh anniversary of the Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless (TCH) providing warm beds to the most vulnerable in our community.

The office hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 12-4 at the Red Lodge, 1137 Emerald Bay Rd.

Bread and Broth needs volunteers for Mondays and Fridays:

 Thank you so much for your current or past involvement with the Bread & Broth organization. Without you, our food outreach services which help ease hunger for hundreds of our community neighbors would not be possible.

Currently, Bread & Broth needs individuals who would be interested in assuming leadership roles in the organization.

Bread & Broth’s Advisory Board is seeking an individual for the position of board Secretary. B&B’s Advisory Board meets quarterly, and the Secretary is responsible for recording the meeting minutes and ensuring that all documentation from the meeting is compiled and filed with the meeting minutes. 

Bread & Broth’s Second Serving (weekly Friday meals served at the LT Community Presbyterian Church) serves a simple entrée and a hot soup which are provided by various local community restaurants. Currently B&B is seeking 2 to 3 individuals to coordinate and pickup soups from restaurants and deliver them to the Presbyterian Church on Fridays. The soup coordinator is responsible for interfacing with the existing list of restaurant soup providers to schedule soup donations and drivers are needed to go on Fridays and pick up soup from the week’s designated soup provider. 

Second Serving is also looking for assistant cooks to support the Lead Cooks at their Friday meals from approximately 2 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. once a month. The meals are simple entrées like meatloaf, pasta dishes, and sloppy Joes.

For those of you with leadership skills, B&B is looking for individuals to train as Lead Assistants for the Monday Meal dinner (2:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.) and the B&B 4 Kids program (Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.) Training is provided and you will be assisting the Team Leads in overseeing and managing the duties of the team volunteers. Lead Assistants are assigned to a Team that volunteers once per month.
