President Lisa opened today's sunny and spring like meeting! We were all so happy to see Pres. Lisa moving about more freely and even able to drive herself to meeting! What freedom!
Our Invocation today provided by Lydia was in honor of our speaker. She spoke of the many aspects books enrich our lives. Reading is a form of prayer, they allow us to travel, to grow, to experience things beyond our imaginations. Just as the DC Public Library's mission is to Connect, Inform, and Inspire, books and our libraries illuminate our lives. Advice from Lydia, "Read and liberate yourself."
Sunshine goes out to Jeanne's family, Rick Pence for a continued speedy recovery, and to Theresa's Chris as he continues on his health journey.
Reminders to all members: Quarterly Member Dues are due April 1. These funds are how we pay for our overhead expenses so they are very important. Happy Dollars can be paid directly on line as well on our website www.sitahoesierra.org on the Donate button.
Auction Donations are being recorded this week by Jeanne Prestella. Please get your information to her. We want our donors to get as much advertisement through out system as possible.

Today's speaker was our own, Vanna Bells! She is the Douglas County Public Library's Library Supervisor here at the Lake. This morning's presentation was such a treat. She has recently joined our club and is a real go-getter. We are so lucky to have her!
|
The Douglas County Public Library was established as a County Library in 1967. The mission of the Douglas County Public Library is to provide a comprehensive collection of library materials, services, and programs with the support of qualified staff to meet the informational, educational, recreational, and cultural needs of all residents and visitors of Douglas County and the Lake Tahoe area.
Did you Know? Did you know that you do NOT have to be a resident of NV in order to enjoy the Douglas County Library at the Lake? All you need to become a member is a valid photo ID. That means that we, in Lake Tahoe, have TWO libraries for our reading, learning, and social pleasure! Wow!
Libraries are such an amazing place and they offer the community so much. Computers, Wifi, Copying, Faxing and Scanning services. Meeting Rooms for use, the ability to borrow from other libraries, Homebound Delivery Services, 3-D Printing, and ELibrary, and fabulous programs! They have programs for Adults, Teens, and Kids. Some of the cool Adult Programs offered are listed below, so be sure to learn more about those.
To make things even easier, they have a satellite drop off book return at Kahle Community Center along with a Tiny Free Library. That's the take a book, leave a book program for anyone to use. All of this aligns with the library's strategic plan and it's up to the community to participate to keep all libraries up and running.
Public Libraries are vital to our communities but they are subject to budget cuts and closures. Why are they important?
- They offer free educational resources.
- They are safe refuges to underserved populations.
- They help boost local economies.
- They play a role for the English Language Learner.
- They make communities healthier.
- They preserve history and truth.
- They connect communities.
To support all of these wonderful elements, the library holds an Annual Gala. The 3rd Annual Gala will be on Oct 4, 2025 at the Carson Valley Inn. It will be a fabulous dinner, show, and auction. More details will follow in the future. You can also join their Friends of the Library, Volunteer, or Donate.
No matter which library you call "home", it's important that we all USE this very important aspect in our communities.
Get in contact with Vanna or anyone of our library support staff:

Thank you again Vanna, for the work you do in our community and with SITS!

On 8 March 2025, join us to celebrate International Women’s Day under the theme, “For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.”
This year’s theme calls for action that can unlock equal rights, power and opportunities for all and a feminist future where no one is left behind. Central to this vision is empowering the next generation—youth, particularly young women and adolescent girls—as catalysts for lasting change.
