President Lisa opened today's meeting by reading an invocation from Lydia's book about Courage. "Don't bite off more than you can chew" is a popular saying. However, biting off a larger than comfortable bite allows you to push harder and reach goals that you might not have otherwise. Have the courage to try!

Today's meeting was all about getting caught up with our club.

A big Thank you to the Kiwanis Club of South Lake Tahoe for their generous donation towards our signature project the "Summer Reading Program".

We read thank you notes from many of the programs we support including one from the El Dorado Community Foundation thanking us for sponsoring "The Drug Store Project" once again this year. See more information about this wonderful program below.

Our committees gave quick updates on their projects:

Healthy Women Healthy World has been busy funding worthwhile organizations that support women and planning our collaboration with Bread and Broth and Lasagna Love on February 10th. This spring we will see an E-waste program, participation in Snapshot Day and some good hikes planned.

Middle School Project: Colleen talked about Challenge Day and the writing and Poster contest they will sponsor following the event. We look forward to seeing and hearing how this impactful program that we support is processed.

Theresa talked about her committee, Menstruation Punctuation. They have all their supplies in and a meeting to put the products together will be held soon.

Cookie spoke about the Education and Economic Development committee. They will begin their Summer Reading Program book process in April.

Wendy spoke about the YES committee and how they work with Mt.Tallac. They provide misc. funds each year for things like: clothing for job interviews, or money to take drivers Ed. They also celebrate a "Student of the Month at Mt. Tallac with a certificate and a $75 Amazon gift card. In addition, Scholarships for all the schools in the area will be given out in the March-April timeframe.

Dream it Be it: Part of this committee is a Sewing class held during flex time at the middle school. Andie has been spearheading this and spends every Tuesday and every other Thursday there helping. This committee will be working with the kids to develop a "Life Skills" DIBI program this spring.

The Social Committee has some fun things planned for us, the first of which is a breakfast at Ernie's Coffee Shop after meeting on January 23rd.

Reminder to all: The District 5 Soroptimist meeting will be held on March 8th.

Please remember if you want to contribute to the LTCC Basic Needs closet, bring your items (see list below) to our business meetings.

Our SITS club and all that we do are driven by the committees that we maintain. All members are asked to join at least ONE Service Committee and ONE Technical Committee. Join the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center (TERC) as they welcome Chris Smallcomb from the Reno office of the NOAA National Weather Service on January 9, 2025. Chris will discuss how winter is going so far, and show the latest forecasts for the rest of winter and what that means for our region going into 2025.

January 16, 2025- Get groovy at the Disco Prom fundraiser for Whittell 7th-9th grade NY/Boston trip

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. – In April 2025, students from George Whittell in grades 7-9 will embark on the trip of a lifetime to Boston and New York. This Spring Break trip is being organized by Mrs. Heather Lamb, Whittell's Mathematics teacher, in conjunction with Global Travel Alliance. This journey will offer students the chance to explore U.S. history, cultural landmarks, and iconic sites while connecting classroom lessons to real-world experiences.

Feb. 7, 2025 - Night to Shine - Tim Tebow Foundation. This is a worldwide celebration event, celebrating people with special needs. Now in it's 12th year, our community is invited to support and participate ion this event. It will be at the Tahoe Blue Event Center. January 23, 2025 - 6:00pm - Live Violence Free announces return of 80s themed Bowl-a-Thon

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Live Violence Free has announced the return of its Bowl-A-Thon fundraiser, and the community is invited! The 80s-themed event will be held at Tahoe Bowl on Thursday, January 23, 2025, from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. Whether you are a seasoned bowler or just looking for an entertaining evening with friends and co-workers, this event is the perfect opportunity to strike up some fun while supporting Live Violence Free.

Reading pals is a community-based reading mentorship program with a proven track record of success, modeled after a grogram that has thrived in Chico Unified School District for over a decade. Our team is receiving direct training and coaching from the Reading Pals organization to endure this program is impactful and meaningful for our students.

Challenge Day is a remarkable event for our youth. This is a two day event and you can sign up for either day or both! LTCC Basic Needs Center is looking for food donations. A variety of foods and basic need items are on the list. Click here for full list and drop off details

If you'd like to donate through our club, please bring your donations to the monthly business meeting and Lisa C. or Andie will make sure they are delivered to the college. Please include an estimate on the value as LTCC needs to keep records of that information.

South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue has a quarterly newsletter to keep us all updated on fire safety info. Their goal is to help people learn about the fuels reduction products they are working on, seasonal fire safety info and other fire dept related news. Click here to sign up for the newsletter

Saint Joseph Community Land Trust has changed their Motel to Home (MTH) program from a loan program to a grant program and we're hoping this will attract families living in substandard housing, who would like to live in a more permanent and adequate home. Please click here for more details

Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless seeks community support in keeping people cared for.

Our South Shore community has been able to sleep better knowing that our homeless population has an indoor option. This winter season marked the seventh anniversary of the Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless (TCH) providing warm beds to the most vulnerable in our community.

The office hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 12-4 at the Red Lodge, 1137 Emerald Bay Rd.
