SITS Christmas Cookie/Candy Exchange

Coming together to share their favorite holiday cookie or candy and more holiday time with their fellow SITS members, nine ladies attended the SITS Christmas cookie/candy exchange at the Gerard home on Thursday, December 22nd.

In addition to exchanging cookies and holiday cheer, a fun game was played and a tasty light luncheon of hot apple cider, chicken Caesar salad, fruit cups, and a capes skewer was served. To add to the festive event, an 'angel tip' (amaretto and cream) was offered to tope of the luncheon event. Everyone went home happy with a Christmas tray filled with a wide variety of tasty holiday cookies to share with their family and friends.

Thank you to the SITS Social Committee members for planning and putting together a fun and festive holiday event.

The Mt. Tallac December Superstar Student award was given to Kayli Sanchez. Her teachers praised her constant devotion to learning, and superior achievements. She definitely deserved this award. It brought a BIG smile, and a big thank you from Kayli!

On December 23rd the Mt. Tallac students created Gingerbread Houses under the guidance of Cheryl from Bread and Broth. Shirley Barr, Julie Nelson, and Joy Rogers enjoyed helping with this annual event that adds so many SMILES to the students holiday celebration at the school.

End of year reminder: People who have IRA’s, including 401k’s and some other retirement funds, are required to start taking minimum distributions at age 70 1/2 or age 72 in some cases. These distributions are counted as taxable income to you. You can opt to make a Qualified Charitable Contribution to a 501c3 organization, such as SITS, which does not count as taxable income to you. The distribution needs to go directly to the charity which you can arrange with your IRA administrator. (If the distribution goes directly to you and you subsequently make a contribution to a charitable organization, the distribution is still taxable to you.) If you’d like to contribute to SITS, please have the check sent directly to PO Box 18727, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96151.

Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless seeks community support in keeping people warm this winter

As our Tahoe winter settles in with snow and frigid temperatures, most residents retreat to the inside for activities, comforts, and warm beds in a place we call home. Our South Shore community has been able to sleep better knowing that our homeless population has this option as well. This winter season marks the seventh anniversary of the Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless (TCH) providing warm beds to the most vulnerable in our community.

They are also in great need for clothing items and will accept donations at their office

Theoffice hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 12-4 at the Red Lodge, 1137 Emerald Bay Rd. As the temperature drops they are in need of warm clothes and jackets, gloves, and hand warmers.

Everyone has a role in this process, which is why we need your input.

Please complete this critical 5–7-minute survey that will help guide and improve tourism and outdoor recreation management efforts. Your responses are anonymous and confidential.

With the holidays coming there’s certainly a lot of styrofoam waste that will be generated. While our local dump does not recycle styrofoam, or any Polystyrene PS-6 products, Atlas Molded Products in Reno does! They are open until 5 Monday to Friday and will take any clean PS-6 including packing puffs (not the kind made from corn starch- only styrofoam ones), big white blocks, supermarket meat trays, takeout containers, and crunchy cookie trays. Just make sure anything you give them is clean and marked PS-6. 775-343-3400.
