Today, President Shelly opened our bewitching morning!
Let us begin by thanking the several women who made this morning's Halloween celebration such a blast. As always, our leadership President Shelly and President Elect Lisa C provide us these fun opportunities. The decorations, the games, and the food was Spook-tacular!
We began with the Pledge of Allegiance and our wonderful invocation presented by Lydia that honored our dear departed Irene Morris. We miss that lady so much. Annually, Irene would recite the famous poem "Little Orphant Annie by James Whitcomb Riley (1849 - 1916). This is a classic and a must to share with kids. The last stanza of the poem is so full of fun:
"An’ little Orphant Annie says when the blaze is blue,
An’ the lamp-wick sputters, an’ the wind goes woo-oo!
An’ you hear the crickets quit, an’ the moon is gray,
An’ the lightnin’-bugs in dew is all squenched away,--
You better mind yer parents, an’ yer teachers fond an’ dear,
An’ churish them ‘at loves you, an’ dry the orphant’s tear,
An’ he’p the pore an’ needy ones ‘at clusters all about,
Er the Gobble-uns’ll git you
Ef you
Don’t
Watch
Out!
