Enhancing the lives of women and youth

in our community and the world.

Today's meeting was opened by President Shelly.

Invocation: Lydia's message this morning was all about the essential value of friendships, especially women friends with whom we can share feelings, cheer on, support, and vent to. So, take an old friend to lunch and tell her how much you value her, or invite a new friend for coffee and get to know her.

Sunshine: Sending our love and prayers to SITSter Julie and husband Dennis as they face some health challenges.

Our Special guests today were Audrey and Charlotte, along with their mentor from AAUW, Jan Lynds (far right). SITS donated $2000 to sponsor two girls to the Tech Trek Program next year. Colleen Pence (far left), Chair of the Middle School Projects Committee, is shown presenting the check.

Tech Trek is a program of the American Association of University Women. From their website: "Through hands-on problem solving and encounters with women role models in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), AAUW Tech Trek helps girls see their futures while having nonstop fun. This one-week summer camp is backed by AAUW’s research and designed to make STEM fields exciting and accessible to girls in middle school — the age when girls’ participation in these fields statistically drops. For many girls, the week long camp sparks their curiosity and places them on a path toward success."

Jan Lynds is a member of AAUW and has been involved with the Tech Trek program in many roles, including dorm mom, coach, workshop leader, and STEM Program coordinator.

Audrey and Charlotte, both eighth graders, lived and studied on the UC Davis campus for a week. Each day held new discoveries in the morning Core classes and afternoon workshops. Some of the subjects covered were astronomy, engineering, anatomy, computer programing, and architecture. They also got to visit the UC Davis Veterinary Science lab and see the sound and lighting equipment at the Mondavi Center for the Arts. Some favorites were the astronomy night, Professional women's evening, and the skills learned at the Safe Credit Union. They also gained some practical knowledge about getting into college and writing thank you notes!

A big take away for both of them was the new knowledge they gained about all the careers and fields in science and technology open to women. Charlotte and Audrey, we wish you the best of luck as you pursue your dreams.

Next week will be our Halloween Party with games, treats, and fun galore! Members are asked to bring a breakfast dish to share. Costumes are encouraged!! Remember, students from the High School S Club will be joining us! Hope to see you there!

Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining"!
