Enhancing the lives of women and youth

in our community and the world.

Today's business meeting was opened by President Shelly.

Invocation given by Lydia started with this quote: "When the power of love overcomes the love of power. the world will know peace." - Jimi Hendrix. After reciting the grim statistics of the most recent wars, Lydia reminded us that all of those dead or injured, no matter the side, were someone's, son, daughter, husband, or wife. From St. Francis of Assisi, "Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love;.... And this from Albert Einstein, "Peace cannot be kept by force, it can only be achieved by understanding." Lydia encouraged everyone to pray and meditate on peace and how we can be the peace in our world.

We are sending sunshine out to Dennis Julie's husband, Margie and her family, Doris G, Lisa F., and Sherry P's NASCAR family. For more information about her life and battle with ovarian cancer see SherryStrong.org.

Correspondence: Thank you letters were received from SI Maui and the Family Resource Center for the backpacks that we filled for their kids.

Installation: During our Business meeting to day we were honored and excited to induct new member Diana Foster. Diana has moved to Tahoe recently from Memphis, TN. She is retired, but has many interests including textile art. Pictured above are a few of her characters which she not only dresses impeccably, but creates a life story for them. She also loves walking in the woods with her Golden, Sunshine and wants to "give back" to the community! You found your tribe, Diana.

District 5 Meeting Report: Shelly and Lydia reported that Soroptimist International of the Americas (our Federation) is embarking on a project to touch one million lives of women and girls. Each club has been asked to keep track and report on how many lives they have impacted.

Committee Reports and Information: Dream It Be It committee met with S-Club members at the high school. We have been asked to sponsor this club and they will be attending our Halloween Party (see below). The Social committee had a fun outing to the Black Ice Production of "The House on Haunted Hill" on Sunday, with social time afterwards. The Awards committee announced that applications for Live Your Dream are open and the deadline for applying is November 15. Click here for more info and on line application.  Live Your Dream Awards program is a unique education award for women who provide the primary financial support for their families. The Youth Enrichment and Scholarship committee reported that they will be giving Student of the Month awards fro Mount Tallac students each month. Anyone who would like to represent our club and present an award, please see Wendy.

Raising Support for Maui

SUPPORT MAUI: There are fully vetted charities on Maui that are collecting funds for those affected by the tragic Lahaina Fire. Visit HERE for a full list. Through our Soroptimist One Voice Committee, our club sent the Maui Soroptimist Sister Club $1,000. We continue to keep all of them in our hearts.

There will be a local SUPPORT MAUI event being spearheaded by a woman who is a member of Soroptimist of West Maui but also lives in South Lake Tahoe part-time. More on that soon but it looks like it will be at end of Sept.

Our club is also organizing a I Got Lei'd fundraiser. See above to get involved in the planning.
